We’re looking for a helpful, pro-active, and communicative individual to take on the role of Energy Awareness Officer. Our ‘Switched On’ Energy Awareness Hub supports Swansea residents by providing information to the public, signposting practical support, and acting as a referral gateway to specialist services. The service will cover utilities (bills, switching), home heating, energy efficiency and consumption, renewable energy and low carbon opportunities, grants and funded support. The Energy Awareness Officer is the first point of contact to deliver this service, providing informative and effective advice to help individuals act. You’ll be very organised by confidentially recording interactions with the public and following up with recommendations, connecting with frontline staff from partner organisations throughout Swansea to reach those most in need of support, and monitoring our impact and reporting this monthly. This role will be suited to someone friendly and empathetic, with experience of engaging with the public and supporting with the resolution of queries. You’ll preferably have a good understanding of domestic energy efficiency and renewable technology or be committed to undertaking full training to be able to advise the public on these themes. This is a partnership project with the Energy Redress Scheme. The Energy Redress Scheme, managed by the Energy Saving Trust, focuses on helping vulnerable energy consumers and reducing carbon emissions. If you are passionate about helping people and being part of the action to deliver a low carbon future, get in touch Roles and Responsibilities As our Energy Awareness Officer, you’ll be expected to: Raise awareness of and provide information on energy use and efficiency, on topics including home renewables, affordable warmth, water efficiency, grant and funding opportunities and support available for utility bills.Deliver accurate, impartial, relevant, and useful information to the public, primarily face to face but also via telephone, email and via social media.Guide beneficiaries through an assessment proforma, providing them with recommendations for action and inputting the information into the projects management system, in line with organisational policy e.g. GDPRUse your understanding of the support and services available to identify suitable options for individuals to explore and enable smoother access to relevant services, increasing the chance of a positive outcome. Maintain a working knowledge of these opportunities and services.Follow-up with service users to identify the energy efficiency measures undertaken, how these have been beneficial and the reduction in CO2 emissions achieved.Carry out Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) for domestic properties, ensuring adherence to energy efficiency standards.Develop relationships with local partners to facilitate the supply of referrals to their services.Arrange a program of outreach events at community locations around Swansea, actively engaging with attendees to introduce them to the service and support.Maintain an up-to-date distribution list of front-line officers and organisations and liaise with these and other agencies to ensure the service reaches the intended audience.Attend awareness events arranged by partner organisations as appropriate.Deliver a series of talks and awareness sessions, including scheduling, arranging locations, and developing tailored content.Work with the Senior Energy Awareness Officer to produce reports as required by funders, including for the future development of the service.Be responsible for volunteers interested in supporting delivery of the service. Team Working This role will work closely with the Senior Energy Awareness Officer in developing and delivering the service. You’ll work collaboratively with the Communications Officer to ensure that awareness of our service meets those that would benefit the most. This includes working together to reach those that experience barriers to accessing the service e.g. due to digital exclusion. You will also work alongside Environment Centre Project Officers to ensure the cross promotion of services, to widen their reach. Person Specification ESSENTIAL CRITERIA Excellent customer service skills and experience working in a customer focused organisation.Strong administrative experience, well organised with good planning skills.Excellent verbal and written communication skillsExperience of sharing information and awareness literature with the public.Ability to engage people, with excellent active listening skills. Ability to accurately record information when in conversation with the public. Experience of following a decision-making process and advising individuals accordingly.Awareness of domestic energy efficiency measures and their practical application.Be willing to undergo training and mentorship relevant to the role.Ability to use your own initiative and work with minimum supervision. DESIRABLE CRITERIA Working knowledge of home energy advice e.g. energy efficiency, fuel poverty, renewable energy.City and Guilds L3 in Energy Awareness.Previous experience of community engagement.An interest in wider environmental and sustainability issues.Ability to communicate through the medium of Welsh.
