The job itself
The Education Welfare Service is looking to recruit an Education Welfare Officer to meet the demands within the School Attendance Support Strand of this busy and energetic team. We seek a candidate who has the ability and personality to develop positive and supportive relationships with schools, pupils, and their families and be confident in representing the service.
Relevant qualifications and previous employment experience with families and children in a multi-agency setting, along with the ability to manage sensitive issues, are essential. A general understanding of education welfare service roles and responsibilities, as outlined in the job description, is also required. A sound knowledge of Working Together To Improve School Attendance (WTTiSA) will be advantageous to applicants.
This proactive service undertakes the council’s statutory duty to ensure all pupils of compulsory school age have access to a suitable and efficient education, either at school or otherwise. This includes enforcing instances of irregular school attendance when necessary. The service also undertakes the local authority's statutory duties in relation to children missing education, elective home education, the employment of children, and issues licenses for those children who take part in entertainment performances; therefore, knowledge of all our statutory duties is also desirable.
