Specialty Doctor Anaesthetics
Job overview
We are seeking a Specialty Doctor to join our middle grade rota. The appointee will be expected to provide anaesthesia for elective and emergency cases in all the surgical specialities represented on the Island and also contribute to the resident on call speciality doctor rota.
The on call speciality doctor rota provides anaesthetic cover for intensive care, anaesthetic support to labour ward and anaesthesia for emergency surgery. Speciality doctors may choose to work either 12 or 24 hour shift when assigned to the on call rota.
The speciality doctor job plan is based on a 10 session (PA) contract. The job plan includes 1.5 PA for continuing professional development to facilitate revalidation.
All the standard modern equipment and drugs are available.
Main duties of the job
The appointee will be expected to provide anaesthesia for elective and emergency cases.
The department provides services for general, ophthalmic, maxilla-facial, ENT, urological, orthopaedic and gynaecological surgery. We also provide anaesthetic services to obstetrics, paediatrics, radiology, ECT and the ED. The relative geographical isolation means that all anaesthetists must maintain a wide range. The main theatre complex consists of 4 operating theatres and 2 separate day case operating theatres. There is a dedicated obstetric theatre and ophthalmologic theatre.
Contribution to the resident on call speciality doctor rota.
