The Northern Lighthouse Board is the General Lighthouse Authority for Scotland and the Isle of Man, responsible for the superintendence and management of all lighthouses, buoys and beacons within those waters. We have provided this vital safety service to mariners since 1786.
The Role – Overview
Based at the NLB’s Headquarters in central Edinburgh, as an Electrical Project Engineer, you will work as part of a multi-disciplinary project department. Working alongside a Civil Project Engineer, you will assist a Project Leader in surveying sites, preparing reports, producing contract documentation, and creating AutoCAD electrical drawings and schematics and bills of quantities for both the fixed electrical installation and the electrical systems. Designs will be developed according to established NLB design principles, emphasizing a renewable energy approach whenever feasible while ensuring a navigational system that requires 99.9% reliability. This role will involve some commissioning work, collaborating as part of the NLB’s commissioning team, as well as overseeing general site activities, including site establishment, progress inspections, and site clearances.
You will need to visit the lighthouse sites along the coast of Scotland and the Isle of Man. Many of them are situated offshore and in remote areas, necessitating regular maintenance, refurbishments, and capital upgrade works.
Salary and Benefits
* £43,306 per annum rising to £47,643 after 1 year in post.

Our ideal candidate will have the following knowledge, skills and experience…
* Qualified to a minimum of HND or equivalent in Electrical Engineering.
* Established knowledge and experience of AutoCAD.
* An understanding of DC and large battery storage systems.
* Practical craft skills/commissioning work.
* Electrical System Integration and Project Experience is preferable.
