Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you’ll do at work
* Experience all areas of Protection Engineering under the guidance of an appropriate Principal, Senior or Design Engineer
* Work to develop knowledge and understanding of other job functions
* Gain product and site knowledge through visits to UK sites, attending training courses in the UK
* Key areas to develop knowledge and understanding are:
o i) General protection application design
o Scheme design
o Interface Engineering
o Secondary cable design
o Protection Intelligent Electronic Device (IED) configuration, application and specification
o Current and Voltage transformer application and specification
o Primary plant- overview only
o Ensuring adherence to Design Specifications
o Associated Health and Safety Legislation and requirements
o Attending Design Reviews, Site Meetings and Technical Meetings with Client, site or office based with appropriate
o Engineers to ensure Client satisfaction
o ii) Production of Engineering and Test Specifications and product specification
* Factory and site acceptance testing of the above systems
* Ensure compliance with customer technical specifications and design intent documents
* Be responsible for technical issues on allocated projects
* Demonstrate compliance with the department processes and procedures
* Abide by all Business Compliance requirements in line with Company policies, for example Business Conduct Guidelines & Confidential Information
* Actively support the continuous improvement of Engineering systems and processes

* Apply health and safety procedures and safe systems of work in compliance with regulations and standards.
* Work in accordance with the design process, company management systems, policies and procedures.
* Review and interpret technical information and requirements from different sources such as specifications, engineering drawings, concepts, stakeholders.
* Identify and assess factors that affect designs such as materials, application, location, risk and environment.
* Select materials and parts.
* Propose and evaluate ideas for sustainable engineering concepts to solve engineering challenges.
* Develop solutions that can be manufactured or built, and proven, operated and maintained during their operational life and decommissioned or recycled at the end of their operational life.
* Provide feedback on engineering designs.
* Apply quality assurance procedures to engineering drawings or models, including own designs and those of peers.
* Communicate with others verbally for example, colleagues and stakeholders.
* Produce written documents, schedules and reports.

Your training plan
* You would be based at company full time with day release at Seta for the first two years of the apprenticeship
