We are looking for experienced Healthcare Support Workers to come and join the Imaging Department.
As a Senior Imaging Healthcare Support Worker (SISW)you will be rostered to work in various modalities including, MRI, CT, Nuclear Medicine, Ultrasound, Fluoroscopy and Plain Film supporting the Consultants, Radiographers, Sonographers and other registered practitioners working in the department
The post holder will be expected to undertake a broad range of duties including assisting with biopsy clinics, cannulations, aseptic technique as well as observing patients whilst they are in the department.
You will need to have a flexible approach to work and be able to carry out all aspects of the SISW role
hilst this role is primarily clinical there is an element of computer and administration tasks associated with the post.

A Senior Imaging Support Worker (SISW)is a crucial member of the Imaging Team
The SISW will be expected to undertake a broad range of duties under the direction of Radiographers, Sonographers and other registered practitioners and assistant practitioners
The post holder will assist with biopsy clinics, cannulations, as well as observation of patients whilst they are in the Imaging department. They will provide competent and compassionate high standard of care helping to ensure a smooth workflow through the department.
This post will involve clinical duties, computer work, chaperoning as well as administration tasks

· Support registered radiology staff in the provision of essential care to patients by assisting patients whilst in the Imaging department according to trust policy and procedures.
• Provide an efficient and effective service to both patients, relatives/carers and other staff maintaining a high standard of patient care, assisting radiology staff as required and supervising and caring for a variety of patients in multiple modalities.
• After completion of relevant training assist radiologists who are undertaking biopsies and other interventional procedures within the Imaging department (including i.e. MRI, CT, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine, Fluoroscopy). Preparing the area for sterile and non-sterile procedures and monitoring and supervising the patient during their examination
• Participate in patient assessment providing a high standard pre and post procedure, including taking patients’ blood pressure and other general observations to ensure patients wellbeing. Reporting any changes in the patients’ physical wellbeing to the Radiographer/Nurse in charge
• Perform specific clinical competencies to enhance the delivery of patient care i.e., cannulation, observations, and aseptic techniques.
• Have a good understanding of procedures and explain the process to patients offering reassurance to them during their visit to the Imaging department
• Co-ordinate the flow of Imaging outpatient and inpatients.
• Where appropriate liaise with the portering team to ensure the safe arrival and return of patients to and from the imaging department
• Ensure the correct disposal of used equipment is followed
• Adhere to health and safety policies and infection control guidelines, especially during procedures involving bodily fluids.
• Act as a chaperone for patients
• Obtain informed consent prior to giving care/therapy in accordance with Trust Policies.
• Assist the multi professional team to prepare and support patients undergoing treatment and or diagnostic tests.
• Maintain patients’ dignity and confidentiality, whilst undertaking examinations of an intimate and high unpleasant and or sensitive nature
• Assist the multi professional team in preparing patients for procedures/diagnostic tests and ensuring patients’ dignity is maintained throughout their visit to the Imaging department.
• Undertake reception duties when required
• Help to promote and maintain a clean, comfortable and tidy environment in the department which meets the needs of the patients, their relatives/carers, and which complies with Trust infection control and health and safety policies and procedures
• Contribute to accurate written and computerised documentation relevant to patient care always ensuring confidentiality of patient’s information
• Escort and transport non-acute patients with no treatment in progress and/or their relatives/carers to other wards and departments within the Trust via wheelchair, beds and trolleys.
• Be aware of the importance of good health and health education needs of patients as identified within individual care plans
· Promote a friendly and welcoming environment for both staff and visitors in order to inspire confidence in the department and Trust.
· Receive and assist patients and all visitors attending the department in a courteous and professional manner.
· Ensure request forms and other documentation is correctly completed in line with departmental procedures.
· Maintain and update accurate attendance, personal and appointment details on the Computerised Radiology Information Systems (CRIS)
· Update the electronic hospital system to ensure the correct patient details are available on the CRIS.
· Maintain effective communication with patients, relatives and members of the Multi-disciplinary team regarding all aspects of care demonstrating a variety of communication skills in accordance with the patient group. This includes confidently dealing with queries coming through the department via telephone and face to face, receiving and accurately passing on information to relevant personnel.
· Provide information to other members of the Multi-disciplinary team on the care/therapy provided.
· Wearing personal protection equipment and personal dose meters
· Control the access of other personnel in a designated area.
· Ensure that correct procedures are followed in the event of an incident or accident
· Participate in the induction and orientation of newly appointed staff, learners and other visitors to the department.
· Prepare and undertake agreed clinical activities (These will vary between wards and
departments) such as:
o Receive and store medication and products
o Use of mechanical aids to assist movement and handling of patients
o Assist with the preparation of trolleys for use in clinical areas
Professional
· Maintain personal standards of hygiene and promote universal precautions to limit
cross infection
· To wear uniform as agreed by North Bristol Trust
· Participate in training and development programmes as identified by the department
Manager and contribute to the development of others
· Keep up to date with changing practice attend Trust training programmes as required
· Ensure the Trust’s Policies and Procedures are known and followed
· Refer to the registered Radiographer/Nurse regarding any situation which is not within
your current responsibility
· Effectively utilise resources within departmental budgetary requirements.
