About the Role: We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistant to join our team on a full-time basis, working 1:1 with a child who has Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in a supportive and specialized Pupil Referral Unit (PRU). The role involves providing focused, individual support to enable the student to succeed both academically and personally in a safe, structured environment.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide consistent, individualized support for a student with SEMH needs to promote engagement and participation in learning.
* Build and maintain a positive, trusting relationship with the student, using empathy and understanding to help manage and overcome behavioural and emotional challenges.
* Work closely with teaching staff, SENCOs, and other support staff to implement personalized strategies and interventions that align with the student’s individual learning plan.
* Foster a supportive, inclusive classroom environment that promotes resilience, self-esteem, and social development.
* Monitor and document progress, adapting strategies as needed to respond to the student’s evolving needs.
* Assist in preparing materials, resources, and activities that accommodate the student’s SEMH requirements and encourage active engagement in lessons.
Requirements:
* Experience working with students with SEMH needs or within a PRU or similar setting is highly desirable.
* Strong understanding of social, emotional, and mental health challenges and effective strategies to support them.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with and positively influence young people.
* Ability to remain calm, patient, and proactive in challenging situations.
* Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
