YouGov's data helps thousands of commercial, cultural, and political organisations understand their customers, run brilliant campaigns, and make better strategic decisions. We have 20 years of the most exciting, connected data on the planet - every day we're learning more about what the world thinks. We capture opinions and attitudes about everything from the Superbowl to Star Wars, from shampoo to social media. We're looking for a commercially-minded business intelligence leader to join the Panel team as Head of Panel Intelligence. In this new and high-impact role, you'll lead a small, in-house team of analysts, and work cross-functionally with panel departmental managers, product and technology leads, and finance and commercial heads, to deliver the insights that help us succeed. You'll use your combination of technical understanding and commercial awareness to transform the way our global panel teams think about and use data. We're looking for a player-manager, someone who can lead, inspire, and motivate a team, but who can also do the work themselves. It's a 50/50 split of hands-on and strategic, and your SQL and PowerBI skills are important. What will I be doing day-to-day? Strategy: You'll understand how the panel teams operate and interact, both within the department and across the wider business. You'll uncover their needs, pain points and preferences, maintaining a continuous feedback loop with them. You'll combine this knowledge with your deep understanding of our data structure, processes, principles, and best practices to create a practical business intelligence roadmap. Roadmap: You'll help define the metrics that matter to the Panel team, acting as a sparring partner to the functional heads, and pushing us towards better data-driven decision making. Using existing pipelines and data sets (mostly in Snowflake) you'll define and design reports and dashboards, balancing long-term strategic needs with ad-hoc immediate queries. You'll optimise for early value, and you'll be committed to iterative delivery. Delivery: You'll own the process for fulfilment of the many requests for reports received by your team, triaging and prioritising in line with agreed OKRs and the roadmap. You'll oversee delivery, putting best practices in place to ensure accurate, complete, relevant high-quality data that meets the brief. From quarterly cost-benefit analyses to simple "how many" questions, you'll be able to zoom in and out with ease. Compliance: You'll support the DPO to ensure appropriate processes are in place for the operationalisation of GDPR and other legislation, as it relates to member data. You'll ensure YouGov's technology best practices are embedded in your team's work, aligning with broader technology and product strategy. Projects: You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to problem solve and contribute to project work. You will solve problems and answer questions with data, and you'll be comfortable following a breadcrumb trail to uncover insights. People: You'll hire, lead, and mentor a small team of analysts to deliver business intelligence & reporting solutions. You will need to nurture a high performing and global team, of different backgrounds and seniority, building a culture of continuous improvement. What do I need to bring with me? Extensive experience with SQL, Power Query (M and DAX), Snowflake & PowerBI. You'll mostly be working with structured and semi-structured data, but you'll need to be comfortable wrangling this into the shape you need without compromising performance. Understanding of the challenges and intricacies of legacy databases, both cloud and on-prem. Decent knowledge of marketing/consumer data - including Google Analytics - would be helpful. Solid experience of leading and managing a team. Ideally, you'll have experience of working in a distributed BI function as a domain lead. Good understanding of data protection and privacy principles, and experience applying these to large volumes of data. We don't expect you to be a data governance expert, but we do need you to know what good (and bad) looks like. Some familiarity with product and engineering best practices is desirable, as you'll be working closely with YouGov's wider technology teams. You will succeed in this role if you are: Adept at establishing yourself as a new lead and forging strong working relationships with your fellow management group and other BI/technology teams in the business. You will be a natural leader, able to impact and influence stakeholders at any level. An excellent communicator. You'll understand, interpret, iterate, and challenge stakeholder requests, providing solutions to help them succeed. You'll be a confident and adaptable data storyteller at all levels of the business. Committed to delivery and quality. We want you to want nothing but the best for our team, our Panel, and the business. Someone who enjoys solving problems, driven by a passion for answering questions with data. Someone with bags of passion and enthusiasm for performance & consumer marketing, market research and the work we do.
