The team
The HR Department focuses on the delivery of strategy, policy, procedures and advice to enable a supportive working environment for all members of the firm and the development of the skills and expertise of employees and partners.
The opportunity
Responsible for managing the operational day-to-day function of the generalist HR team ensuring we have policies and practices that align with the business strategy and in line with best practice. Managing and supporting the HR Advisor and HR Administrator through all aspects of the HR lifecycle including advice and guidance to partners, managers and employees on all generalist HR matters. Providing commercially focussed people solutions that consider the business strategy and growth planning, policies and procedures, employment legislation and HR best practice.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Generalist HR
1. To manage, coach and develop the HR team to ensure quality of work is of the agreed standard. Keep under review all administrative processes and procedures, recommending changes and improvements as appropriate. Contribute to effective team working and ensure appropriate support is in place.
2. Provide the HR Business Partner and managers with information needed to inform and support decision making on issues such as retention, absence and performance management.
3. To seek views and feedback from the practice and support departments to ensure continuous improvement of the service that the HR Team provides. Build and maintain internal relationships with key contacts to understand how best the HR Team can assist their needs.
4. To implement HR initiatives aligned with the HR strategy and overall business strategy.
5. Manage complex employee relations casework including dispute resolutions, disciplinaries, grievances, absence, retirement and redundancy.
6. Performance Development Reviews (PDR’s) - oversee and manage a performance development review (PDR) process that drives high performance. To advise and support partners and managers on the firm’s annual PDR process, as required.
7. To manage the research, design and implementation of firm policies to ensure policies comply with legislative changes and are in line with the firm brand.
8. To ensure the HR team continually strives to ensure employees and partners are operating in a way that supports the firm culture and values.
9. To manage the HR operational budget on a day-to-day basis.
10. To manage annual HR events such as Practising Certificate renewals, PDR’s, salary review etc.
11. To undertake training and coaching of managers on HR related issues, as appropriate.
12. To undertake and continue professional personal development by attending training events, seminars, workshops, etc as appropriate.
Employment Relations
1. To provide advice, guidance and support to HR team on all ER matters, including discipline, grievance, absent management, restructures and employment terminations. Directly managing more complex investigations.
2. To ensure the HR team manage HR matters reliably and in accordance with current legislation and firm policy.
3. Partnering with line managers to review performance management.
4. Training line managers on current employment legislation and future changes. Write and present information briefings on a range of HR related topics.
Resourcing
1. Working closely with HoD’s, line managers and HR advisors to identify succession planning.
2. Assisting line managers with interviews.
3. Assisting Resourcing team with Graduate Recruitment matters including screening of applications, assessment centres, vacation schemes etc.
In conjunction with the HRIS & Payroll Manager:
1. Undertake annual reviews of BDB Pitmans’ benefit provision to not only ensure the firm remains competitive in the market but that our package meets the needs of our diverse workforce.
2. Assisting the HR Director with the annual salary review process ensuring it is undertaken in an efficient and timely manner. Ensuring reviews are consistent across the firm and working towards minimising the firms Gender Pay Gap.
3. Manage quarterly benefit fairs or promotions of current benefits packages.
4. Support the HR team dealing with ad hoc queries connected to the various benefit schemes.
Projects
1. Supporting the wider HR team with ad-hoc projects.
2. Supporting the firm with a number of D&I and CSR initiatives.
Who we are looking for
The successful candidate will have previous experience of working in Human Resources at manager level within a professional services environment (law firm experience preferred).
