Together we are Trusted to Serve Scotland.
Scottish Water look after around 300 of Scotland's reservoirs. While they are essential sources of drinking water, they are also stunning natural spaces that provide important access to green space and are immensely valued by visitors.
We’re committed to connecting communities with their local environment and to support tourism by enabling access to our assets, where appropriate, for leisure purposes.
Right now, we’re looking for a Visitor Management Ranger (6 months fixed term/ secondment) to join our Land Strategy team from April 2025. You’ll be responsible for supporting the delivery of our visitor management plans at key sites in Edinburgh and the Lothians, and throughout Central Scotland.
What you’ll do
1. Welcome visitors, patrol key routes and offer guidance and assistance to educate and inform visitors about responsible behaviour.
2. Raise awareness and understanding of the risks water poses, and why reservoirs are different from other bodies of water.
3. Look after the sites, co-ordinate volunteering work such as litter picking, and work with local community groups.
4. Organise and deliver events such as guided walks and talks as appropriate.
5. Conduct regular risk assessments, identifying and reporting repair and maintenance requirements, and completing smaller or emergency repairs as necessary.
6. Identify opportunities to improve access to our sites and provide specialist advice on Scottish Outdoor Access Code provisions.
7. Collect data to support reporting on Scottish Water’s Visitor Access targets.
What you’ll need
1. Experience of working with the public in a customer-focused role.
2. Top-notch communication skills.
3. Knowledge of the Scottish Outdoor Access Code and relevant legislation.
4. Enjoy working outdoors in various weather conditions.
5. Self-motivated, with the ability to work alone while contributing to team goals.
6. A full, clean driving licence.
Looking out for you
This is a full time (35 hours per week) role with regular weekend working, including Bank Holidays. We'd be flexible with working patterns, but Wednesdays to Sundays are the busier days.
You’ll get 38 days of holiday every year (including public holidays), with the option to buy five more. Paid time off is available to volunteer in your community.
We have family-friendly policies around adoption, maternity, and parental leave, as well as flexible working options.
For your future, there’s our pension and life assurance.
Expect an annual company bonus and access to SW Splash for discounts on holidays, bills, and shopping.
