About you
As a IAG Youth Worker you will bring to the role:
* An understanding of the issues which concern young people today and an ability to audit young people’s needs and plan and deliver outcomes to reducing NEETs.
* The ability to work effectively with young people in one-to-one support & groups and offer solution focused approaches to achieving learning outcomes.
* Be able to plan IAG support in youth work sessions with young people linked to Children’s Services priorities and youth service targets.
* Have experience of enabling young people to explore their values and self-respect and involving young people in the decision-making process.
* Have a positive view of young people and a commitment to a young person-centred approach.
* A Level 3 qualification in Youth and Community work is required for this role.
About the role
As our next IAG Youth Worker you’ll be an integral part of the Pathways Team offering Information, advice and guidance to young people who are not accessing employment, education, and training. The team works with a wide range of partners to support referrals into the Pathways team and to refer and signpost young people for additional support with appropriate agencies. The role is integral to the Pathways team which contributes to the council’s statutory duty to track and support young people who are NEET. The role is based on a wedge model with hybrid working being an option for the successful candidate.

Job Description
Job Purpose: Deliver IAG (Information Advice & Guidance) using a youth work approach and methodology, ensuring that the planning, delivery, monitoring and evaluation of Leeds Pathways Support programmes are responsive to the needs of young people and are in line with Children’s Services strategic plan and priorities.
Responsibilities
* Work directly with young people to develop and maintain relationships to help identify their starting points, needs and aspirations.
* Work face-to-face for a minimum of 70% of the role, this could include working evenings and weekends as required.
* Work in partnership to assess needs, provide and evaluate a well-planned and resourced programme of activities, services and facilities for young people using youth work methodology.
* Carry out assessments to identify the barriers young people face to full participation and work with young people to design, agree & implement a plan of actions.
* Offer impartial advice and guidance to young people about all their post 16 options so that they can make informed choices about their future.
* Coordinate a list of sustained NEET young people in a locality and ensure that IAG is provided through existing professional support through attendance at Job Shops.
* Explore partnerships and develop them to improve outcomes for young people.
* Work with and support other teams and services to ensure that NEET and Not Known sweeps are carried out.
* Deliver IAG in hubs and other settings around the city as required.
* Act as a mentor, coach, and role model for other practitioners to help develop and broaden their professional youth work and IAG practice.
* Manage relationships to ensure effective working with all appropriate services and partners.
* Carry out tracking, monitoring, and recording in line with CCIS user rules.
* Support the necessary day to day administration, finance, health & safety and comply with all necessary monitoring, review, reporting & evaluation process of the Pathways Support team and Leeds City Council.
* Key holder, alarm duties and be contactable by telephone to deal with out of hours emergencies if required.
* Use the Leeds Practice Model as an overarching ethos including a Restorative Practice approach.
* Maintain effective relationships with staff at all levels within the Directorate, other Council Directorates, Elected Members, external agencies, and the general public.
* Be proactive in safeguarding and promoting welfare of Children & Young People.
* To be aware of and adhere to Leeds City Council’s Health & Safety policy, being responsible for your own health and safety whilst at work and that of your colleagues and service users.
* Work within all relevant policies, procedures and systems established corporately or locally.

Qualifications The minimum qualification for this post is a JNC recognised Level 3 Youth Work qualification.

* Able to record, evaluate and produce IAG, reports within specific timescales.
* Knowledge of child protection and welfare issues.
* Knowledge of local and national policies and their relationship to IAG/Youth Work.
* Knowledge of Education, Housing & Benefit providers & data protection.
* Knowledge of Health & Safety issues affecting all activities within the posts remit.
* Good working knowledge and understanding of the Leeds Practice Model including restorative practice as well as understanding of Outcome Based Accountability (OBA) and Child Friendly Leeds priorities.
* Knowledge and evidence of the ability to communicate effectively with the voluntary sector, other agencies and the local community in order to develop initiatives and services for young people.
* Experience of working with young people in a diverse range of youth work/ young people’s environments.
* Experience of enabling young people to work effectively in groups.
* Experience of enabling young people to explore their values and self-respect involving young people in the decision-making process.
* Experience of effectively planning IAG support in youth work sessions with young people linked to Children’s Services priorities and youth service targets.
* Experience of effectively recording and evaluating IAG, produce reports within specific timescales.
* Experience of developing positive links/partnerships with the voluntary sector, the community and other agencies.
