To ensure that the Portering and Waste services team carry out their portering duties following departmental and Trust policies. Duties include supervision of teams and to manage annual leave and sickness. To communicate with all users of the services on a regular basis to ensure the service specifications are being delivered to agreed standards.
Main duties of the job
Maintain the confidentiality of information about patients, staff and other health service business in accordance with Trust Policy.
· Provide effective communication and support to the operation of the department
· To aid Hospital staff, visitors and patients when faced with difficult situations caused by third parties, following Trust policies and procedures.
· To be able to communicate sensitive issues when dealing with the deceased family using tact and respect.
· Guide and direct visitors and deal with telephone calls in a helpful and friendly manner
· To investigate and resolve complaints speedily and effectively, keeping a positive image of the department
· Provide advice and support to the portering team.
· Communicate daily with all users
· Understand and adhere to procedures for dealing with complaints
Attend daily briefing meeting with the Assistant Waste and Portering Manager, and liaise with other Supervisors.
· Respond to the emergency Bleep for fire, medical emergency, major obstetric haemorrhage, deploying staff appropriately.
· Planning / scheduling of rosters and appropriate annual leave within the team to ensure the service is well covered at all times.
Ability to transfer patients across site .
· Ability to transfer waste from source to point of storage.
· Assess manual handling / risk prior to movement

1. Level NVQ 3 in a management discipline or equivalent experience

6. Strong communication skills, including the ability to handle difficult situations effectively
