We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Technician to support our vibrant Art and Design Department. The successful candidate will collaborate with teachers and fellow technicians to ensure the smooth operation of various co-curricular activities and scheduled lessons. Key responsibilities include preparing materials, organising equipment, managing art supplies, and overseeing the display of student artwork throughout the College.
Key Responsibilities:
* Assist the Department of Art and Design in effectively managing and maintaining resources, equipment, and materials.
* Prepare classrooms and materials for all scheduled lessons.
* Create and manage engaging displays within the Faculty and throughout the school.
* Work proactively within an established supervision framework.
* Ensure timely ordering, storage, and distribution of materials as needed.
* Assist with lessons under the guidance of teaching staff.
* Maintain equipment in optimal working order and ensure cleanliness of work areas.
* Support students with practical aspects of their projects as needed.
* Liaise with the IT department to troubleshoot issues with computers and printers, ensuring high-quality printing of students’ work.
* Oversee the safe storage of students' projects within the department.
* Care for and store all equipment, resources, and materials, coordinating with other staff members.
* Provide administrative support, including photocopying and other clerical tasks.
* Identify the need for and maintain both general and specialised equipment and resources.
* Ensure the safety and quality of specialist equipment, performing repairs within capability and reporting major issues.
* Instruct and assist others in the safe and effective use of specialised materials and equipment.
* Participate in fire safety procedures, including potential fire marshal responsibilities.
Person Specification:
* Higher degree or recognised professional qualification in a relevant field (preferred).
* Evidence of ongoing professional development.
* Minimum of two (2) years of relevant work experience.
* Previous experience working with young people is preferred.
* Proficient in woodworking and engineering machinery, with confidence in operation.
* Strong knowledge and skills appropriate for the position.
* Excellent IT proficiency, including Microsoft/Google Applications, and working knowledge of CAD software and equipment such as laser machines.
* Familiarity with the Art and Design syllabus is desirable.
* Commitment to upholding safeguarding protocols to ensure a secure environment for all students.
* Current knowledge of health and safety practices related to art and design, collaborating with the Health and Safety team to conduct risk assessments for art spaces.
* Capable of providing guidance and training to staff and students on the safe use of materials and equipment within the classroom.
