Job Description – Head of English
Directly reporting to: Assistant Principal
Indirectly reporting to: Principal
Responsible for:
* Overall Job Purpose: To lead the English department, ensuring high standards of teaching, learning, and student achievement.
* Teaching and Learning: To model excellent teaching practices, understand the needs of all learners, provide personalized support, implement intervention strategies, develop departmental teaching practices, and uphold the department's ethos and standards.
Key responsibilities:
Curriculum
* Lead the development and implementation of an inspiring, well-sequenced, and ambitious English curriculum across all Key Stages.
* Promote cross-curricular themes aligned with school priorities.
* Stay updated with developments in pedagogy and subject knowledge.
* Create and source effective learning resources.
* Ensure robust assessment practices and standardization within the department.
* Engage with parents and carers to foster a partnership in students' learning, providing regular updates on progress and targets.
Other specific responsibilities:
* Operate within the school's Equal Opportunities framework.
* Implement safeguarding and child protection policies, promoting student welfare.
* Adhere to health and safety policies and develop relevant risk assessments.
* Comply with Data Protection policies.
* Participate in training, share good practices, and engage in professional development activities.
* Perform other duties as reasonably assigned by the Headteacher or designated authority.
