Role: Electrical Controls & Instrumentation Designer

Key Objectives

• To maintain up to date knowledge and competence to support the role and to align to client’s and industries’ requirements and directives
Main Activities
• Produce new and update existing detailed EC&I design documentation; typically - loop diagrams, control panel schematics, field connection diagrams, I/O schedules, control circuits, failsafe circuits, LV power distribution & protection, single line diagrams, control panel GAs and layouts, instrument air distribution and control, instrument air system layouts, instrumentation hook-ups, functional testing procedures
• Comply with both national and site standards
• Carry out site surveys
• Compile document work packs
• Comply with company and site procedures; typically – Engineering design, project control, documentation control, procurement, verification
• Support other activities; typically – estimating, commissioning, hand-over, procurement
• Contribute to team(s) to support continual improvement
• Work independently, using own initiative

Qualifications / Experience
Required
• ONC / HNC or equivalent in Electrical / Control / Instrumentation Engineering discipline
Preferabl
• HSEQ qualification (i.e. IOSH)
• CompEx – ExF (foundation), EXF+ (foundation plus) or Ex01-04 (Gas & Vapours), Ex05-06 (Dust), or Ex12 (Application Design Engineers)
• Functional Safety, IEC61508 – TUV or equivalent
• BS7671:2018 IET Wiring Regulations - C&G2382-15 or equivalent
• CDM regulations
Experience & Knowledge
• 5 years recent experienced in an equivalent role
• Industrial sector Engineering
• COMAH Tier 1 Process Manufacturing Environment
• Functional Safety
• ATEX directive
• Projects
• Engineering design process – scope, specification, site survey, detailed design, design review, design approval, issue for construction, commissioning, “as built” documentation
• Document control processes – review, approval, issue, revision
• EC&I Engineering documentation – loop diagrams, control panel schematics, filed connection diagrams, I/O schedules, control circuits, failsafe circuits, LV power distribution & protection, single line diagrams, control panel GAs and layouts, instrument air distribution and control, instrument air system layouts, instrumentation hook-ups, functional testing procedures
• PLC and DCS systems
• Equipment and material specification
• Procurement & expediting processes
• Installation processes – site surveys and measures, installation instructions, “as built” records
• Query processes – TQs, CVIs
• Verification processes – pre-commissioning, commissioning, hand-over
• Commercial processes – estimating, budget, programme
• CDM project lifecycle
• Strong PC skills – AutoCAD, MS Office, drafting tools, document databases, specialist Engineering design tools
