The post requires an accessible and responsive team member with clinical responsibility for a defined patient group.
The post holder will be able to make informed decisions within their own area and scope of professional practice to ensure agreed standards, objectives and targets are met across the Dermatology departments at UHCW.
You will be required to undertake nurse led clinics and manage various nurse led services; ensuring excellent standards of nursing care to patients through the planning, co-ordinating, delivery and evaluation of clinics.
You will work both autonomously and as part of the team to deliver specialist clinical care appropriate to the needs of the patient group and service based on principles that are research based and which enhance the quality of patient care.
You will contribute to the facilitation of the planning, delivery and evaluation of care pathways for Dermatology patients.
To participate in the development of staff within the multidisciplinary team providing support, advice, formal and informal education andassist in the audit and research process.
1. Ensure that the needs of patients are placed at the centre of care delivery, thus achieving trust and national standards for clinical quality, safety and patient experience.
1. To participate in and manage caseload of patients within nurse led clinics with the support of Lead Nurses and Consultants.
1. Within nurse led clinics use advanced clinical assessment skills and judgement to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care for patients with complex physical and psychological problems using a recognised evidence based model of care.
1. Within nurse led clinics implement strategies and treatment interventions aimed at slowing the rate of decline or preventing progression where possible.
1. Within nurse led clinics monitor and make treatment interventions in order to manage associated patients’ symptoms.
1. Order and interpret relevant tests and investigations.
1. Provide appropriate and timely education and advice to patients with long term dermatological conditions.
1. Ensure patients receive the appropriate and timely treatment interventions and procedures.
1. Undertake or willing to undertake nurse led surgical procedures including punch biopsies, curettage and cautery, incisional and excisional biopsy and treatment with cryotherapy when deemed competent.

1. To assist with cross cover of the CNS’s across all sites and to deputise in the absence of a Senior Clinical Nurse Specialist.
1. To report all clinical and non-clinical incidents promptly and when requested to co-operate with any investigation undertaken.
1. To establish strong working links with other key colleagues within the directorate both within the multi-professional team and external bodies outside the Trust concerning Dermatology.
1. To have a thorough understanding of safeguarding procedures and knowledgeable with respect to safeguarding triggers and risks.
1. To document and maintain accurate records in line with professional standards of record keeping.
1. To promote the Dermatology service within the Trust and within the local network.
1. Ensures all information is stored in accordance with the Data Protection Act and Caldecott guidance.
1. Process information electronically and manually.
1. Ensure information is communicated through the appropriate trust channels as required.
1. Maintain, advance and develop personal theoretical knowledge, high standards of clinical competence and professional development through self-education and attendance at relevant courses of study.
1. To participate in relevant research including the measurement and evaluation of the service by the process of audit and patient satisfaction
1. To contribute to the development of teaching resources to develop knowledge base about Dermatology.
1. To pursue a Programme of continuous education to achieve and maintain expertise for the post and continue professional development using the NMC Advanced Practice competencies as a framework.
1. To be responsible for ensuring own awareness of current developments in Nursing, the Health Service and relevant specialist clinical practices.
1. To be responsible for own professional development and participate in ‘Performance and Development planning’ with the Lead Nurse in Dermatology
1. Promote and monitor adherence to Health and Safety and Trust policy designed to protect healthcare staff and service users from known hazards.
1. Maintain a clean, safe environment ensuring adherence to Trust standards of cleanliness, hygiene and infection control at all times.
