Description
We are seeking an experienced in-house Legal Counsel to support our current Head of Legal. The salary for the role is based on FTE 37.5 hrs per week. We will discuss this with each individual candidate during the interview process. This role may also be available on a part-time basis, depending on PQE and experience.
Reporting to the Head of Legal and working closely with the Senior Management Team, the role will be responsible for the provision of a broad spectrum of legal advice. The post holder will interface with multiple internal stakeholders across AutoRek to ensure legal exposure is minimized, commercial value optimized, and positive client relationships maintained.
You will be required to identify, assess, and manage legal, contractual, and reputational risk; negotiate and facilitate the execution of contractual documents and advise on all legal matters generally affecting AutoRek, seeking additional support where necessary.
The role is based in our Head Office in Glasgow, with some travel to our Edinburgh Office on occasion. As a business, we operate on a hybrid working-from-home model with a minimum of two days per week in the office.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage, draft and negotiate all forms of company contracts, including but not limited to NDAs, SaaS Agreements, Service Level Agreements and Partner Agreements.
* Act as trusted legal advisor, balancing risks and providing sound advice to the management team and support business functions, reporting material legal and contractual risks to the CFO.
* Establish and embed contracting policies to ensure timely and thorough legal assessment prior to contractual engagement and cultivate a considered risk/value-based approach.
* Attend Departmental and Management meetings as required to advise on legal matters and provide ongoing coaching to the wider operational teams on processes, compliance and new legislation.
* Maintain a central repository of contracts proactively managed by date of renewal.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
* Minimum 5 years of practice or corporate experience providing legal advice and negotiating agreements in a SaaS/technology/start-up environment, preferably with an international company - the role will include supporting the development of US expansion including liaison with US attorneys in setting up a US entity, commercial contracts, import/export laws, taxation and other issues relevant to trading in the US.
* Demonstrable understanding of software and services contract requirements and strong skills in negotiating SaaS agreements.
* Familiar with data privacy and protection law and practice, particularly in relation to SaaS infrastructure environments.
* Proven ability to work in a team and experience dealing directly with clients and business partners and have previous success working with sales teams in customer negotiations.
* Solicitor qualified in a UK jurisdiction.
* Excellent technical, analytical, and drafting skills and a real eye for details.
* Able to build effective working relationships with stakeholders across AutoRek, our customers, and external partners.
* Excellent commercial understanding and a pragmatic approach to risk management.
* Straightforward and clear communicator avoiding legal jargon where appropriate.
* Strong project management skills and the ability to prioritise a significant workload effectively.
