The ideal Teaching Assistant should: Have a good standard of general education, to include literacy and numeracy skills equivalent to NVQ2 in English and Maths. Good interpersonal skills with both adults and children. NVQ 3 for Teaching Assistants or other relevant qualification with some practical experience of working with children, or; A good understanding/ previous experience of working with children in an educational context with evidence of relevant training in the appropriate age range or curriculum/learning area. Ability to use ICT effectively to support pupils’ learning. Working knowledge of national/foundation stage curriculum and other relevant learning programmes/strategies. Must be willing to undertake further professional development. Examples of other relevant experience or training may be specified to meet the particular needs • Have experience working as an Early Years, Key Stage 1 or 2 Class Teaching Assistant or SEN TA • Be flexible and patient • Be able to communicate effectively within a team • Be compassionate and an awareness of attachment • Be creative and caring You will need to show a good understanding of children’s development and take a lead in organising tasks which enable personalised targets to be met.
