Full time considered up to a maximum of 1.0 FTE (37.5 hrs). Requests for flexible working options will be considered (subject to business need). There is an expectation that due to the nature of the role, the role holder will need to attend campus for a minimum of 3 days per week. Although an amount of flexibility can be offered.
Grade 7 starting at £37,999 to £45,163 per annum, pro rata if part time.

The University of Sussex is seeking a talented Network Engineer to join our Infrastructure Team. You will be a key member of the University’s flagship Network Replacement Project, which is working to provide a modern network that will underpin transformative learning experiences and enable world-leading research.

You will provide leadership, guidance, and expertise in delivering the components of a new network.
About you
As a Network Engineer, you will leverage your extensive expertise in LAN and WAN, IP address management, firewalls, and security access control systems to deliver innovative solutions and ensure network stability and security.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Active participation in the support of WAN, LAN, routing, Wi-Fi, firewall, and network security, IPAM, network access control.
2. Collaborating with other teams to ensure IT systems and solutions being adopted meet the evolving needs of the University and its students and researchers.
To excel in this role, you should possess knowledge of the following:
* Enterprise firewall management
* Network Access Control systems (preferably Clearpass)
* Wi-Fi management system
* IP Address Management experience using Infoblox solutions or equivalent
You should have experience in the following:
* Routers and routing protocols
* Managing and configuring Layer 2 and Layer 3 network switches
* Network services such as DNS and DHCP
* IP Address Management experience using Infoblox solutions or equivalent
* Network cabling technologies including both structured cabling and fibre optic network cables
* Designing, configuring, and troubleshooting Juniper networks
Qualifications / Skills & Experience:
* 3 years of relevant network experience within information security/technology focused on networking
* Cisco switching & wireless, Cisco Security
* Formal certification including Juniper, Cisco CCNP or multiple CCNA across Network technologies/areas
* Ability to communicate effectively and build relationships to understand client requirements
* Ability to deliver against deadlines and agreed SLA targets
* Ability to take ownership of an issue or task and see it through to completion
* Previous troubleshooting and support experience
