As the Associate Service Director you will play a key role in supporting the Service Director, Unit Nurse Director and Unit Medical Director in delivering effective leadership and management of the Mental Health & Learning Disabilities Service Group (MHLD). The post has been designed to work with considerable freedom to act over a range of highly complex services to ensure that there is clear and unequivocal focus on quality and safety at the core of the MHLD's objectives.
Main duties of the job
This autonomy is set within the context of delivering the wider Health Board strategy and plans, and the Values and Behaviour Framework. The post holder will be accountable for several complex services as well as a Service Group wide role for all services and associated resources across MHLD including accountability for strategy, performance and finance.
To be professionally and operationally accountable to the Service Group Director for all areas of responsibility to ensure service quality, effective workforce planning and use of resources and modernisation.
To be the Service Group wide lead for a delegated area of responsibility. To be accountable and responsible for the management, leadership, direction and financial control of all services as outlined above, contributing to and ensuring the delivery of strategic professional and operational service objectives set by the Board and the Executive Team. The post holder will operate independently interpreting general health, organisational policy and guidance and will be expected to advise the Health Board accordingly.
To deputise for the Service Group Director across the range of his/her portfolios as required.

Person Specification
Essential and Desirable
* Professional knowledge over a range of disciplines which will ensure the effective management of several complex service groups.
* Evidence of significant experience in line management of staff.
* Track record of achievement at senior management level.
* Significant experience in financial management, budget setting, monitoring and determining corrective action.
* Experience of managing performance and ensuring targets and performance indicators are met.
* Experience of dealing with highly complex issues in a large organisation.
* Ability to demonstrate high level leadership skill in a highly complex, politically sensitive and changing environment.
* Previous experience of managing Mental Health or LD Services.
* Programme and project management qualifications.
