Milton Keynes College Prison Services Team at HMP Standford Hill are seeking innovative and engaging individuals to work with a diverse group of learners, helping to build their confidence, develop their skills and achieve within a college environment. The College are looking for people interested in variable/ad-hoc hours who are keen to explore Prison Education at HMP Standford Hill (or other prisons we work with). HMP Standford Hill are currently looking for individuals with one or more of the below skillsets to support their curriculum delivery – Ability to cover more than 1 of these areas would be beneficial. Teaching – Functional Skills English & Maths, IT, Life Skills, First Aid, Health and Safety and more Learner Support – Education Inductions, Distance Learning, LDD General Administration If you are a qualified teacher in a subject not listed please do get in touch as your skills are likely to be transferrable Prison education runs all year round, all day Monday-Thursday and until lunchtime on a Friday. Delivery hours vary slightly prison to prison but full days are split across 2 long lessons (Morning and Afternoon). Hourly paid opportunities (Occasional Workers) can be varying and change frequently so flexible availability is essential. Requirements can range from short notice short term cover to longer term sickness cover or recruitment gaps and anything in between. If you hold qualifications or expertise in more than one area or are able to travel to more than one prison, this could give you the opportunity to cover across multiple courses/sites and as a result the potential for more hours. In terms of working pattern/cover hours - these would fall between Monday to Thursday (Full days - 8:00 to 17:00) and Friday mornings (Morning only 8:00 to 12:00), so you would need to be available within these times. ABOUT HMP Standford Hill… HMP Standford Hill is a Category D prison, holding approximately 500 adult male sentenced offenders. The site of HMP Standford Hill prison was the first home of British aviation. Standford Hill is an open prison for men. It is one of 3 prisons that form the Sheppey Cluster in Kent, along with HMP Elmley and HMP Swaleside. HMP Standford Hill’s focus is firmly fixed on reducing reoffending and preventing future victims of crime by preparing offenders for their release through accredited intervention programmes, skill and vocational based training and education, in a pro social environment. Courses at HMP Standford Hill include Maths, English, Steps to the Gate, First Aid L3, Health & Safety L2, CSCS and Art. We also support distance learning through the virtual campus, working alongside Open University, Prison Education Trust and many more. The education delivery hours are Monday to Thursday 8.15am – 11.30am, 1:15pm – 4.45pm and on Fridays 8.15am – 11.30am, with staff working on-site 8:00am – 5:00pm each day and 8:00am – 12pm on Fridays. Class sizes typically range from 8-12 learners. Commuter information: Regular trains from Sittingbourne onto the island. Transfer to the 360 bus at Queenborough or 373L bus from Sheerness. There is plenty of parking on site.
