A committed, caring and flexible Personal Assistant is required to support a 8 year old with a range of special needs, to manage his daily routine and support his development within the home in Bryncethin and surrounding area. This post is funded through the Direct Payments scheme and is intended to enable this family to manage their support independently. Training can be provided as required and where available.
Hours of work:
22 hours per week
Flexibility is essential for this role, full notice will be given within an agreed time schedule.
Rate of pay: £12.75 per hour
Main Duties:
• Support and maintain daily routines in the home.
• Support and encourage interactive activities such as singing, stories and using resources to support play and development.
• To liaise with family and nursery/school as appropriate to enable consistency of routines and activities, and to support his needs both personally and developmentally.
• Provide direct personal care and hygiene.
• To interact, engage and build a positive relationship with client.
• To support an independent lifestyle both at home and in the community.
Person Specification:
• Formal qualifications are desirable but not essential.
• Paediatric First Aid qualified or willing to undertake.
• Trained in Peg feeding or willing to undertake
• Manual handling qualified or willing to undertake.
• Knowledge of Makaton sign language or willing to learn.
• Active and energetic.
• Experience in a similar role.
• Proactive individual with local knowledge.
• A good sense of humour.
• Caring, honest, responsible and patient.
• Flexibility around hours of work and main duties of the job.
• Reliable with good time keeping.
• Able to use own initiative and be self-motivated.
• Able to maintain confidentiality and privacy.
• An ability to develop and maintain a supportive relationship.
• Good communication and inter-personal skills together with a good sense of humour.
• A full driving licence is preferred.

Benefits:
Wages are paid 4-weekly, in arrears.
5.6 weeks holiday per year (pro rata).
Sick pay at SSP rate, if eligible.

Additional Information:
This post will require a DBS check (the cost of which will be met by Bridgend County Borough Council), as this post requires you to work with children and it is compulsory for you to have a DBS check prior to commencement.
