High Voltage (HV) Engineer – BESS Projects

NEOS are working with a client at the forefront of the UK’s renewable energy transition — a fast-growing player in the Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) sector. As they continue to scale their grid-connected assets, they are looking to appoint a High Voltage (HV) Engineer to support the installation, commissioning, and operational reliability of multiple BESS projects.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an HV Engineer with 11kV–33kV experience to move into one of the most in-demand areas of clean energy, with long-term development and progression built in.
The Role
As HV Engineer, you’ll be responsible for the safe delivery, energisation and operation of HV infrastructure across new and existing battery storage sites. You’ll work closely with the wider engineering, construction and O&M teams to ensure electrical safety, grid compliance, and project timelines are met.
Key Responsibilities
Carry out switching operations under HV safety rules (as SAP or AP)
Manage installation and commissioning of HV equipment including RMUs, transformers, and protection systems
Liaise with DNOs and ICPs during grid connection processes
Support project energisation, testing, and site handover activities
Conduct inspections and maintenance of HV systems across operational BESS assets
Review and develop electrical safety documentation including RAMS, switching schedules, and permits
Ensure compliance with all statutory regulations and company standards
Requirements
Proven experience working on HV systems up to 33kV
Senior Authorised Person (SAP) status with relevant ticket(s), or working towards
Strong understanding of HV safety rules and switching protocols
Experience with substations, grid connections, or BESS (ideal but not essential)
Recognised Electrical Engineering qualification (HNC, HND or equivalent)
Full UK driving licence
Willingness to travel across regional sites
Desirable
Prior involvement in Battery Energy Storage or renewable generation projects
Knowledge of G99/G100 grid connection standards
Protection testing or commissioning background
Familiarity with SCADA, control systems, or telemetry
