We have an opening in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, for a full-time teacher, to start as early as April 2025 (although September 2025 is acceptable). If you are passionate about history, love teaching in a creative way, and are prepared to travel, you may be the person we are looking for.
Founded in Cambridge in 1996, Off the Page employs experienced teachers to bring history alive for primary school children. Our teachers drive to schools throughout England and create an immersive learning environment using drama, role-play, and practical crafts to engage primary school children in historical events, science, or literacy topics.
On any given day, one of our teachers may be anything from a member of Pharaoh’s court in Ancient Egypt to a Home Guard volunteer helping evacuee children adjust to new surroundings in the Second World War. After the school day, teachers return to base, clean/swap their history kits, and prepare for the next day.
A willingness to drive long distances (with some overnight stays) and a clean driving record are both a must. There is also an element of lifting and carrying on all our days.
Travel Expectations: For this position, expect to travel in Hertfordshire, London, Surrey, Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, and beyond. Positions for our Cambridge office are not being considered.
Minimum Qualifications: Successful candidates must be qualified primary teachers with at least three years’ experience in the classroom, ideally in both KS1 and KS2. They must also pass an enhanced DBS check. Off the Page is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment.
Starting salary is £34,234 p.a., which includes a non-contributory pension scheme. The salary is due for review in April 2025, when an increase is expected.
Deadline for Applications: 7th March 2025
Interviews to take place: TBD March 2025
We particularly welcome applications from under-represented groups, including ethnicity, gender, transgender, age, disability, sexual orientation, or religion.
