Astute's Nuclear team is partnering with a bespoke engineering provider who specialise in offering solutions to the nuclear and defence sectors. They are currently looking to recruit a Principle Mechanical Engineer for its Chorley site.
The Principle Mechanical Engineer will actively lead design teams, ensuring safe, compliant, and high-quality engineering solutions. The role comes with a salary of up to £70,000 per annum (or £60 an hour, if contractor).

Responsibilities and duties
As a Principal Mechanical Engineer you will:
Lead and supervise multidisciplinary engineering design teams, providing technical direction and oversight.
Encourage a collaborative work environment that emphasises continuous learning and improvement.
Support the Engineering Manager by monitoring engineering activities to meet cost, schedule, quality, and safety standards.
Coordinate project schedules, resources, and budgets, and adjust project plans as necessary to meet timelines and cost targets.
Identify, assess, and address technical risks, escalating issues as needed.
Conduct design reviews to ensure engineering deliverables meet applicable regulations and quality standards.
Professional qualifications
We are looking for someone with the following:
Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent Level 6 qualification) in an engineering discipline.
Proven leadership in a collaborative engineering environment.
Deep knowledge of relevant safety, health, and environmental legislation (e.g., Machinery Directive, LOLER, PUWER, CDM).
