whatsthebigmistry is the creative platform of Priya Mistry, a multidisciplinary artist, performer, socially engaged worker, and creative producer-curator. Mistry's work spans across dance, performance, visual arts, digital and live art. Their practice focuses on identity, decolonization, in/visable dis/ability, mental health, sex, and queerness. They deconstruct language, explore sensory/non-word based vocabularies, and reimagine objects and human bodies, creating both static and moving arrangements that challenge and engage audiences.
Role Overview
As the Artist Manager / Producer of whatsthebigmistry, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the artistic vision of Priya Mistry. You will be responsible for managing various aspects of Priya's work including administrative tasks, financial management and project coordination.
Key Responsibilities
Administrative Management
* Oversee day-to-day administrative tasks, including scheduling, correspondence, and record-keeping.
* Coordinate logistics for rehearsals, performances, exhibitions, and other events.
* Maintain organised digital and physical filing systems.
* Implement and maintain efficient operational systems and procedures.
* Identify areas for improvement and implement solutions to enhance systems in place.
Financial Management
* Develop and manage budgets for individual projects and overall company operations.
* Monitor expenses and prepare financial reports and invoices.
* Liaise with bookkeeper, accountants or financial advisors as needed.
Project Coordination
* Work closely with Priya Mistry to coordinate the execution of artistic projects from conception to completion.
* Manage timelines, deadlines, and deliverables for each project.
* Coordinate with artists, collaborators, venues, and other stakeholders.
Responding to Access Needs
* Implement Priya Mistry’s access rider.
* Support non-linear thinking.
Producing
* Provide oversight on all project operations.
* Drive efforts to secure funding for projects and write applications.
* Engage in strategic work and forecasting for future initiatives.
* Build and maintain key partnerships and relationships.
* Apply knowledge and experience in contracting to manage agreements.
Essential Criteria
* 3-5 years proven experience in arts administration, project management, or general management roles.
* Strong organisational skills particularly with calendar management and booking spaces.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Proficiency in budget management and financial reporting with working knowledge of accounting software (preferably Quickbooks) and Excel.
* Ability to multitask and prioritise in a fast-paced environment.
* Able to offer flexibility to sudden changes in schedule.
* Able to use initiative and make decisions independently.
* Knowledge of Microsoft Office (particularly Word and Excel) and or Google Suite.
* Familiarity with the contemporary arts landscape and social issues addressed by whatsthebigmistry's work.
* Working and current knowledge and experience of outreach particularly community outreach.
* Previous experience of working with or knowledge of performance artists.
* Familiarity with relevant and current social media (such as Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok).
Desirable Criteria
* Mental health first aid training.
* Experience working in visual arts, or related fields.
* Knowledge of website design software (WordPress).
* Familiarity with image and video software (e.g Canva, Adobe Suite).
* Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required by project schedules.
* Knowledge or experience of working with neurodiversity and knowledge of what it means to work in accessible ways and with access needs.
* Those who may be connected to BIPOC/Global Majority networks, Dis/able/ Neurodiverse networks and LGBTQI+ networks.
* Knowledge of copyright in, for example but not limited to, music, photography, moving image, text or publication.
