Job Title: Site Chemist
Reports to: Head of Executive Support Services
Job Purpose:
To bring value to the business by accepting and inspecting all incoming assignments of Hazardous and Non-hazardous waste by following the relevant regulations and site procedures.
Your Daily objectives as a Site Chemist will involve:
1. Ensuring all incoming consignments of wastes have appropriate paperwork (Consignment Note/Duty of Care).
2. Ensuring all appropriate paperwork has been completed correctly and copies are held on site and with hauliers.
3. Responsible for the completion of waste safety checks to allow acceptance to site, storage safety and processing and/or onwards transfer.
4. Responsible for the completion of regular sampling of received waste to then further supply to internal laboratory for analysis.
5. Ensuring incoming waste is inspected to BAT requirements in Sector Guidance Note 5.06.
6. Ensuring waste is routed such that costs are minimised whilst maintaining legality and compliance.
7. Waste acceptance is recorded using the SAP system.
8. Non-Conformances are recorded using the SAP system, detailing all relevant information.
9. Ensuring paperwork is passed through for scanning within 48 hours of arrival.
10. Ensuring all waste is being appropriately stored in line with Sector Guidance and Permits.
11. Ensuring all waste is labelled correctly with all relevant information.
12. Processing of waste as required to include bulking, sorting, segregating, listing and re-packing of wastes.
13. Provide technical support to other members of staff on site.
14. Complete relevant outgoing paperwork.
15. Act as a site first aider (once trained).
16. To maintain a clean and tidy work area completing housekeeping.
17. To assist other teams when required.
18. To perform other duties as reasonably required by the business.
Your General Responsibilities will include:
1. Additional duties as requested by senior management in line with the capabilities of the role holder.
2. Support and contribute to Group overall objectives and aims, in line with the role holder's experience and competence.
3. Support and contribute to all aspects of good safety and health, daily awareness of safety issues and well-being awareness.
4. Fully responsible for your own and others' health and safety.
5. Ensure all incidents, observations and concerns are reported through an escalation process; solutions are identified and actions, in line with Company policy.
6. Ensure ideas for the improvement of safety are listened to and acted upon, involving the Health and Safety representatives and HR Management if necessary.
7. Ensure non-company employees (visitors, third parties and contractors) conform to the Health and Safety Policy including using the correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
8. Raise a Corrective Action Report for any concern or improvement opportunity.
9. Compliance with all energy-saving activities.
10. Compliance with water-saving activities.
11. Compliance with our reduction in pollution activities.
12. Compliance with emissions goals when driving company vehicles or otherwise driving on company business.
Key Requirements:
1. HNC or Degree Level Qualification in Chemistry or a similar related field.
2. Experience in working in the Waste Sector (ideal but not compulsory).
3. Computer literate especially in using Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
4. Must demonstrate willingness to work in outdoor conditions in a hazardous chemical environment undertaking a manual/hands-on approach.
