About The Role
Job Summary:
As a key member of the Production Engineering Department, the Production Engineer is responsible for engineering support for both new and existing products. Acting as the primary interface between engineering and operations, this role ensures seamless collaboration between the operational activities and the design functions. Driving process improvements, resolving manufacturing and product issues, and enhancing production efficiency. This position plays a critical role in optimising design-for-manufacturing, reducing costs, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Manufacturing & Production Support
1. Reports directly to the Production Engineering Manager.
2. Supports the design engineers with the introduction of new products into the Blackwood facility.
3. Assists with manufacturing and quality investigations, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
4. Supports Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and optimize production processes.
Quality & Process Improvement
1. Assists in the implementation of the Site Quality Management System (QMS) to ensure compliance with standards and best practices.
2. Conducts technical evaluations of change requests, ensuring manufacturing feasibility and impact assessment.
3. Undertakes trials and testing to generate data supporting engineering changes and process optimizations.
4. Ensures compliance with 6S principles, safety standards, and SOPs within production areas.
Project & Change Management
1. Supports the Production Engineering Manager in RoadMap projects aimed at improving production efficiency and quality.
2. Assists in the implementation and handover of approved projects, ensuring successful commissioning and qualification.
3. Provides progress reports on projects, highlighting risks, issues, and mitigation plans.
4. Assists in leading product line extension projects within the BSG portfolio.
Technical & Supplier Support
1. Serves as a first point of contact for purchasing, production, and QA regarding component or assembly issues on new and existing products.
2. Supports the Engineering Change and Development Review Process, ensuring smooth transitions and documentation updates.
3. Provides technical input for the selection and evaluation of new and existing suppliers for raw materials and components.
Qualifications
Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience & Skills:
1. Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
2. Professional certifications (e.g., Six Sigma Green Belt, Lean Manufacturing, or similar) are desirable but not essential.
3. Knowledge of Quality Management Systems (QMS), including ISO standards and other relevant regulatory frameworks.
4. Familiarity with CAD software, statistical process control (SPC), and manufacturing best practices.
Skills
1. Manufacturing Process Knowledge – Strong understanding of production techniques, automation, and manufacturing best practices.
2. Problem-Solving & Troubleshooting – Ability to analyse and solve complex technical issues in a timely manner.
3. Project Management – Experience in planning, executing, and delivering projects, ensuring deadlines and budgets are met.
4. Continuous Improvement (CI) Expertise – Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or Kaizen principles, with proven success in implementing CI initiatives.
5. Technical Communication – Ability to communicate technical issues and solutions effectively to cross-functional teams and external suppliers.
6. Quality Control & Compliance – Strong understanding of ISO standards, QMS, and manufacturing quality systems.
7. Change Management – Experience in managing engineering changes and understanding their impact on manufacturing processes.
8. CAD & Software Skills – Proficiency in CAD software and statistical analysis tools for process optimization and design reviews.
9. Leadership & Team Collaboration – Ability to collaborate across teams and lead by example to ensure team efficiency and morale.
Experience
1. Proven experience in a manufacturing or production engineering role, ideally within a fast-paced or high-tech environment.
2. Hands-on experience with new product introductions (NPI), process validation, and engineering change implementation.
3. Experience with troubleshooting manufacturing equipment, machinery, or assembly processes, ensuring minimal downtime.
4. Proven track record in leading or supporting continuous improvement initiatives that drive cost savings, efficiency, and process quality.
5. Experience in working with cross-functional teams such as quality assurance, procurement, production, and R&D.
6. Familiarity with supplier management and the technical evaluation of suppliers for raw materials and components.
7. Experience with quality systems audits and ensuring compliance with internal and external standards.
8. Exposure to managing production schedules, resource allocation, and material planning to meet customer demands.
