R&D Project Scientist Scapa UK Ltd is part of the Mativ group Scapa is a leading global manufacturer of bonding and adhesive components and cable wrapping solutions for the High Voltage cable markets. We have a wide reaching global footprint, with 20 manufacturing and operations facilities across Europe, North and South America and Asia. The Role We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic scientist either with a related science-based degree or minimum of 5 years in a similar role. The candidate will support the work of the R&D Department, the team who lead all scientific research and development related activity for Scapa UK’s industrial division. There are a number of new research development projects which would suit a scientist looking for project-based innovation and new product developments. This opportunity will be attractive to candidates who wish to apply the skills and expertise from work and/or education and would like to apply them in a new area. The role will be based in the Industrial R&D area ofi Mativ's Ashton based facility. It will be largely laboratory based with production / scale up trials, customer liaison and some international travel. Job Description: Permanent role as R&D Project Scientist. Lead development projects including external customer / supplier liaison – working with key stakeholders, to develop and deliver new products on time and meeting key performance criteria as defined by the project sponsor. Assisting in and completing lab test plans, design of experiments for trials and reporting results both within R&D and wider management. Assist cost out and supply chain security through approval of new and novel supply chain alternatives. With senior colleagues, establish specific customer and market requirements and offer tailored solutions to those requirements in a timely manner. Science based degree or a minimum 5 of years’ experience in a similar environment bringing a passion to develop a career in an industrial R&D environment. Experience of developing product formulations and knowledge of rheology would be a distinct advantage. Good analytical skills for literature-based research & statistics based data reviews. Good practical skills for laboratory and test rigs based work. Good communication and interpersonal skills including report writing. Key requirement is flexible and open-minded approach to developments, and a keen attention to detail as regards recording laboratory results and reporting them accurately.
