Preconstruction Manager
Birmingham
An opportunity has arisen for a Preconstruction Manager to join the team at Galliford Try.
Ideally, you will be based in or around the West Midlands or South West area and will have the opportunity to travel across multiple sites/projects in the Region.
What you will be doing:
You will support and report to the Preconstruction Director by providing leadership of and taking responsibility for the performance of Galliford Try Building West Midlands & South West Preconstruction team, based in the Solihull office; from identification of an opportunity, through pre-qualification, the tender, post-tender negotiations, preferred bidder stage, and handover of the project to our delivery teams to construct.
You will maintain an overview of the entire work winning process and ensure it is efficiently managed in accordance with Galliford Try’s bid management processes and fully complies with corporate governance and that our submissions provide the maximum opportunity for success.
You will lead by example by engendering a collaborative culture throughout the team, including our supply chain, consultants, and customers, ensuring that everyone upholds Galliford Try’s purpose, vision and values.
You will be based in the Solihull office but will also be required to spend time in the Bristol office as and when required.
* Effective management of delivering preconstruction services within financial constraints to meet Business Plan objectives
* Develop, lead, and manage a preconstruction team to meet Business Unit objectives.
* Contribute to the effective management of the preconstruction team.
* Identify winning bid themes, strategies, and actions. Communicate and implement effectively.
* Be responsible for the commercial element of a project and not just the quality submission.
* Standardise quality bid submissions & share best practice across Galliford Try
* Ensure design strategy is in place, risk analysed & summarised.
* Create/review technical submissions.
* Adherence to tender processes as set out by the business unit and Galliford Try’s BMS
* Receive, analyse, and disseminate tender documents, including handling clarifications and amendments.
* Preparation of bid programmes, bid budgets and monitoring of progress against both.
* Ensure all bids are subject to correct adjudication and governance procedures e.g. bid: no bid criteria, settlements, and approvals.
* Help develop, lead, manage and maintain a procurement strategy to meet objectives.
* Capture lessons learned on every bid, ensuring learning feeds into improvement activities.
About You:
* Relevant experience within the construction industry, with experience in work winning.
* Be commercially aware and be responsible for the financial aspect of tenders.
* Successfully managed both first stage tender and preferred bidder programmes and been responsible for their delivery
* Experience of relevant customer and framework procurement processes
* Detailed understanding of safety leadership from a policy and behavioural perspective
* Knowledge of NEC & JCT forms of contract
* High level of understanding of risk management and how this impacts on being able to produce tenders that when chosen by our customers provide an expected level of return without exposing the business to excessive levels of risk.
* Have experience of line managing and being responsible for a preconstruction team.
