Asset Manager (Uncertainty Mechanism) - Warwick (Hybrid) - £51,000 to £60,000
National Gas is securing Britain’s energy. We transport gas throughout Great Britain, repair and maintain gas pipelines, and manage the meters that allow millions of homes and businesses to access the energy they need. We are the national gas network, providing secure energy to power Britain, achieve net zero, and maintain our industrial competitiveness.
Join us, and help be the energy behind the change.
About the role:
As we evolve to meet net zero targets for 2050, we need an Asset Manager to play a key role in shaping the future of the UK’s gas infrastructure. Every five years, we submit our Business Plan to Ofgem, outlining how we will deliver for customers and end consumers. Uncertainty Mechanisms (UM) allow us to adapt this plan based on the evolving energy landscape, and your work in developing these mini-business plans will drive critical investment decisions.
You'll lead the development of robust Uncertainty Mechanism Engineering Justification documents, securing funding for asset investments. Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, you'll build strong needs cases for Ofgem’s consideration and own the relationships that shape our team’s outputs.
We're looking for a strategic thinker who understands the bigger picture and can justify efficient investment decisions in a rapidly changing industry. You'll be a strong collaborator, bringing stakeholders together across multiple engineering disciplines to develop data-driven, optimised narratives. As a clear communicator, you will articulate investment decisions effectively, incorporating stakeholder input to refine and improve submissions.
This is more than just a technical role - it’s an opportunity to influence the future of energy. If you have the ambition to elevate this position and drive innovation while ensuring a safe and reliable service for consumers, we want to hear from you.
As part of our hybrid working approach, this role offers a mix of office working in Warwick (approx. 40% of the week) and home working.
What we're looking for:
1. Ability to research and write papers
2. Stakeholder management skills
3. Awareness of asset management tools, risk quantification and management
4. Understanding of Gas Transmission plant and equipment
5. Experience in investment and business case development (cost benefit analysis and engineering justification)
6. Experience of whole life cost analysis and contribution to project/programme management (inception to mobilisation)
7. Appreciation of what’s required to produce robust engineering submissions
8. Appetite to develop and iterate knowledge whilst applying lessons learned
Desirable -
Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering, numerate or science discipline or relevant experience
What we can offer you:
* Annual bonus of up to 6% based on personal and company performance
* 26 days’ holiday plus statutory holidays - option available to buy extra holiday days
* Generous double-match pension scheme - for every £1 you put in, we'll add £2 (max company contribution 12%)
* Flexible benefit scheme, including private healthcare, dental insurance, technology plans and more
* Financial protection with 10x salary death in service and financial support if you're unable to work due to long term illness or injury
* Excellent family friendly provisions - maternity/paternity/adoption/shared parental leave
* Career progression, professional training and development - including access to LinkedIn Learning
* Employee assistance programme offering free confidential professional counselling 24/7
* Financial support to help you cover the cost of professional membership subscriptions
