How you'll make a difference:
As an Emergency Planning Officer, you will bring your expertise to both general emergency planning and health protection work areas.
Working in partnership with colleagues and external organisations, you will collaborate to ensure the delivery of emergency planning and related public health functions and services on behalf of the authority in accordance with the relevant legislation, including the Civil Contingencies Act (2004), The Radiation (Emergency Preparedness and Public Information) Regulations (2001), Pipelines Safety Regulations (1996), Control of Major Accident Hazards Regulations (1999), Section 6C Regulations under the NHS Act 2006 (as inserted by the Health and Social Care Act 2012), and Public Health (Control of Disease) Act 1984 (as amended by the Health and Social Care Act 2008).
What you will be doing:
* Assist in the development, delivery, and assessment of emergency preparedness and response arrangements in line with legislative requirements and best practice.
* Prepare plans that comply with specific legislation including Control of Major Accident Hazards regulations (COMAH), Radiation Emergency Preparedness and Public Information regulations (REPPIR), Major Accident Hazards Pipelines regulations (MAHP), and the 2004 Civil Contingencies Act.
* Prepare, validate, and maintain plans to prevent and respond to outbreaks and incidents involving communicable disease, chemicals, radiation, and other environmental hazards that represent a threat to the health of the local population.
* Assist with the provision of advice and information on health protection issues to South Gloucestershire Clinical Commissioning Group.
* Lead on specific public health work streams and act in a project development role on areas such as seasonal flu planning and health protection message promotion.
What we need from you:
* Essential degree level or equivalent in a related subject, with experience in a local authority environment or equivalent relevant experience; emergency management experience is advantageous.
* Advantageous to hold or be working towards a relevant professional qualification in health emergency planning or a related subject.
* Confidence and ability to speak effectively in public.
* Successful record of original plan writing, exercise design, and dealing with outside agencies is advantageous.
* Experience of working within the NHS or wider public health workforce is desirable.
