Join Ivanti as a Site Reliability Engineer and play a pivotal role in enhancing the reliability and performance of our cutting-edge cloud services. Collaborate closely with Product Engineering and Security teams while leveraging your expertise in cloud platforms, automation, and infrastructure management. What You Will Be Doing
1. Deploying, managing, and securing Ivanti’s customer-facing Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) web products in AWS and Azure.
2. Troubleshooting all infrastructure (e.g., Linux, Windows, Kubernetes) and application issues (e.g., Java and .NET).
3. Working with geographically dispersed teams and across departments to solve difficult problems.
4. Automating common and repetitive tasks.
5. Writing documentation and training material.
6. Training other colleagues.
7. Standing up new services in new and existing data centers.
8. Participating in an on-call rotation for 24 x 7 coverage.
9. Working shifts that may match up with the United States’ day and night shifts.
To Be Successful in The Role, You Will Have
1. BS or higher in Computer Science/Software Engineering or equivalent.
2. Enthusiastic self-starter with 2+ years industry experience.
3. Strong experience in designing, building, and managing fault-tolerant Linux and Windows-based web platforms in the Cloud (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP, etc.).
4. Strong Kubernetes experience.
5. Strong Linux troubleshooting skills.
6. Strong Windows troubleshooting skills.
7. Strong experience with advanced networking, security, and programming.
8. Able to code in one or more: Java, Python, Ruby, advanced Shell Script, other OOP languages.
9. Strong user of continuous integration and deployment tools: Azure DevOps, Chef, Ansible, Jenkins, Github Actions, or similar.
10. Experience with collaborative source control tools: Git, Subversion, or similar.
11. Ability to configure and fine-tune at least one: HA Proxy, Apache, Nginx, IIS, or similar.
12. Ability to configure: DataDog, New Relic, Splunk, Pingdom, or similar monitoring tools.
13. Familiar with one or more: SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Redis, Kafka, MongoDB, Elasticsearch, or similar.
14. Strong understanding of DevOps practices and Object-Oriented Design principles.
15. Experience contributing to application/development projects.
Roadmap for Success
1. First 90 Days:
1. Complete onboarding and training to familiarize yourself with Ivanti’s culture, tools, and processes.
2. Review existing Ivanti Cloud services architecture and current operational procedures.
3. Conduct one-on-one meetings with team members across Product Engineering, Security, and Support departments to understand their roles and challenges.
4. Gain hands-on experience with our cloud environment (AWS and Azure) and internal tools.
5. Begin contributing to the triage of incidents and support tickets.
6. Automate a simple, repetitive task to demonstrate your problem-solving abilities.
7. Participate in daily stand-ups and team meetings to become an integrated part of the team.
8. Set up monitoring tools (e.g., DataDog, New Relic) to familiarize yourself with our observability practices.
2. First 6 Months:
1. Take ownership of specific components within the Ivanti Cloud services, focusing on reliability and performance enhancements.
2. Lead the implementation of a new automation process that improves efficiency across the team.
3. Participate actively in the on-call rotation, bringing innovative solutions to reduce incident response times.
4. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address and resolve complex service-related issues.
5. Develop and deliver training sessions for team members on best practices for troubleshooting Linux and Windows systems.
6. Contribute actively to documentation efforts, ensuring processes and procedures are well-documented and up-to-date.
7. Start to build relationships with key stakeholders to understand their needs and how Site Reliability Engineering can support them.
3. First 12 Months:
1. Lead a project that enhances the continuity and reliability of cloud services through chaos engineering initiatives.
2. Establish clear KPIs for operational performance and reliability, regularly reporting on advancements.
3. Develop a continuous improvement plan for the Site Reliability Engineering processes and share it with leadership.
4. Mentor junior team members, offering support and guidance to foster their professional growth.
5. Engage with the community through workshops or speaking engagements to position Ivanti as a thought leader in Site Reliability Engineering.
6. Stay updated on emerging technologies and best practices, implementing innovative solutions as appropriate.
7. Conduct a review with your manager to evaluate performance, share achievements, and discuss future goals and opportunities for advancement within Ivanti.
