We are looking for a Project Civil Engineer to join our team on major UK construction projects, starting on a project in Birkenhead. The role is site-based and involves working on projects across the UK, reporting directly to the Site Agent, Project Manager, and Contract Manager. The successful candidate will support the management and delivery of civil engineering projects, working within a flexible organisation that values self-motivated, practical problem solvers.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical & Project Delivery:
1. Carry out surveying, setting out, and volume checks in a timely manner and in accordance with specifications.
2. Interpolate ground investigation (GI) data, designs, and specifications to produce accurate quantities and earthworks phasing 3D models.
3. Manage machine control setup and operation, including 3D modelling and ensuring on-site accuracy.
4. Ensure compliance with testing frequencies based on actual earthwork volumes and maintain excellent communication with QA and project management teams.
5. Monitor earthworks progress, accurately reporting weekly volumes to senior management.
6. Interpret engineering drawings and specifications to ensure construction meets client requirements.
7. Provide accurate information to the Works Management to ensure timely project execution.
8. Prepare and submit weekly progress reports for review, contributing to financial CVRs and completion forecasts.
9. Assist in ensuring adequate plant, labour, subcontractor, and material resources are available to meet project timescales.
10. Support the procurement process, ensuring timely payment of suppliers and subcontractors, and monitor their performance, including financial aspects.
11. Identify potential problem areas and their financial impact, ensuring provisions are made within forecasts.
12. Assist in resolving contractual issues with clients and suppliers while maintaining good relationships.
13. Ensure all activities are completed safely, adhering to health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.
14. Assist in preparing quality, environmental, and H&S construction plans.
15. Support and promote innovation and new technology related to earthwork operations.
16. Mentor apprentice engineers to foster career progression and improve skill levels.
Requirements:
Qualifications & Experience:
1. Degree or HND in Civil Engineering.
2. Minimum of 4-5 years' site experience in roads, drainage, earthworks, and reinforced concrete.
3. Strong leadership skills and demonstrable experience in a similar role.
4. Experience in mentoring junior engineers.
Technical Skills:
1. Excellent knowledge of Topcon/Trimble/Leica machine control, including setup and calibrations.
2. Competent in surveying and setting out techniques using GPS and Total Stations.
3. Strong computer literacy with experience using Microsoft Office, CAD, and LSS surveying packages.
4. Commercial awareness with good negotiation and influencing skills.
