Job Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Project Manager within the multi-disciplinary Property & Estates Development Team at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust.
Reporting to a Project Manager, this individual will be responsible for supporting the delivery of a wide range of diverse and exciting projects on one of the three main acute sites, within the MFT group. The applicant can be from a building or engineering background and educated to an undergraduate degree level or have equivalent level of knowledge gained from experience. While NHS experience is desirable, we encourage candidates that have suitable qualifications but no NHS experience to apply as specific training can be provided.
As an Assistant Project Manager, you’ll be instrumental to the successful delivery of our annual capital programme, strategic planning, and estates rationalisation. The MFT capital programme comprises the delivery of business cases through major/minor capital projects and extensive backlog maintenance programme across the estate. We will look to you to support and implement capital and estates strategies that ensure we achieve our development programme goals. Responding to changes called for by the modernisation agenda, you’ll ensure that we meet our statutory responsibilities and evolve in line with the NHS plan.
Main duties of the job
The main duties will include supporting Project Managers in the commissioning and successful delivery of projects from inception through to completion. This will be achieved through the robust management of programme, budget, and design throughout project delivery, ensuring health, safety, and quality is kept at the forefront.
The successful candidate will support Project Managers in managing project budgets, including full accountability and responsibility for all budgets allocated and expenditure made in line with trust SFI's ensuring best value for money, accurate and timely reporting, cost efficiencies, and full adherence to trust procurement rules. This will include supporting Project Managers on several different project budgets at the same time.
Ensure that appointments, tenders, contracts, and subsequent payments are undertaken in accordance with the Trust's Standing Orders, Tendering & Contracting Procedures, and NHS capital planning guides.
Support the development of project feasibility studies with Users and Design Teams to form part of capital bid submissions on behalf of the Deputy Director of Estates Development, utilising Cost Consultants as required.
Responsible for interpreting construction contract law, Health and Safety legislation including CDM, building regulations, and other requirements on estates and capital development.
