Job Introduction
As an Early Intervention Practitioner, you will be working as part of the Children & Young People's Mental Health and Early Intervention system in North East Essex where we deliver services.
This is a role within the CAMHS Early Intervention Service. The post holder will work within child and adolescent mental health services as part of a multidisciplinary team. The postholder will be responsible for delivering evidence-based brief interventions for children and young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties.
Main Responsibility
1. To work independently as required and provide support to empower people to live healthier lives;
2. To support service users to identify early signs of mental health relapse and alert appropriate staff involved in the person’s care;
3. To work in isolated situations with children and young people who may be vulnerable or at risk;
4. To establish supportive and empowering relationships with the children, younger people and their families and carers;
5. To work in close partnership with schools and school nurses to provide best support to young people;
6. To promote positive mental health in school by designing and implementing training to school staff;
7. To monitor and report any changes, both positive and negative, within the care of the child or the young person, during clinical meetings, supervision and at other relevant times;
8. To ensure that the young person and the family understands who to contact within the different agencies involved;
9. To take appropriate courses of action in an emergency;
10. Responsible for own work and highlighting any concerns regarding work load to management;
11. Carrying out and monitoring treatment programmes as directed;
12. Forming part of an interdependent multi-disciplinary team helping to ensure that their input is integrated into the children and young people's overall care;
13. Promoting the recovery of young people and supporting them to build their independence in the community around the transition to adulthood;
14. To operate from an inclusive value-based approach, which recognises and respects diversity;
15. To liaise and build relationships with third sector organisations, to gain up to date information on the services they are offering and share this knowledge with the MDT, and signpost the families.
Clinical Skills
1. To deliver outcome-focused assessments under supervision, evidence-based interventions to children and young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties;
2. To work in partnership and support children, young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties and their families in self-management of presenting difficulties;
3. To work in partnership with children, young people and families in the development of plans for the intervention and agreed outcomes;
4. Empower children, young people and families to make informed choices about interventions;
5. To take on cases that have been identified via initial assessments in line with both local and national policies and procedures;
6. To ensure the effective escalation of cases via clinical meetings and clinical/managerial supervision;
7. To attend MDT and other clinical meetings as needed;
8. To support young people with the process of transition into adult services;
9. To support young people with accessing Education, Employment and Training in line with both the trust and national EET agenda.
To work collaboratively with children, young people and their families to co-develop effective treatment plans.
The Ideal Candidate
1. You will hold a degree in a relevant subject (Working with children and families/youth work/psychology) or be a registered practitioner (nurse, counsellor, therapist).
2. You will have training and experience in delivering an evidence-based therapeutic intervention to children, young people and their families (e.g., Managing anxiety, psychoeducation workshops, FLASH, Self-esteem).

You will also need to be confident using IT systems and be able to demonstrate working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel.
