Role Title: Welfare Rights Caseworker
Salary: £27,081 - £29,489 per annum
Location: During your initial 6 month probationary period you will be required to work full time from one of our offices in Flintshire. After successfully passing your probation there will be the opportunity for hybrid working (part home / part office).
Contract type: Permanent
Could you be the key person to help someone in need resolve potentially complex benefits issues? Could you support clients in resolving their benefit issues through advice and support tailored to their needs, including representing them at tribunals?
About Us
Citizens Advice Flintshire (CAF) is a charity established in 1964, providing advice services on various community needs. It offers support on issues like benefits, debt, employment, discrimination, family, housing, immigration, and health. CAF advocates for legal and service improvements using individual cases. With main offices in Mold, Connah’s Quay, and Holywell, and multiple outreach locations, CAF offers assistance through phone and online platforms. Supported by funders like Flintshire County Council, the Welsh Government, and the National Lottery, CAF helped over 9,000 people with over 50,000 advice issues in 2023/2024.
About the role
As an experienced Welfare Rights Caseworker your typical day would involve:
1. Interviewing clients by telephone or digital channels to explore their situation and problems.
2. Making decisions about what the next steps should be, based on understanding the problem, the client’s capability, and the effective use of resources and other agencies which provide advice and conciliation.
3. Providing quality-assured assisted self-help / early intervention information.
4. Identifying urgent situations and ensure any possible action is taken immediately.
5. Providing a range of advice and casework support for clients, as appropriate.
6. Maintaining detailed case records.
7. Attending supervision sessions and team meetings, sharing what you’ve learnt with the rest of the team and learning from other team members.
What we are looking for
To be successful in the role of Welfare Rights Caseworker you will:
1. Have recent experience in delivering benefit advice and casework.
2. Have a passion for supporting people and be able to empathise with clients.
3. Want to improve people's quality of life through the provision of information and advice.
4. Have effective communication skills with particular emphasis on negotiating, representing, and preparing reviews and correspondence.
5. Be competent, experienced and comfortable using a range of communication methods and platforms, and also IT systems such as Word and Google Docs.
6. Have good written and verbal communication skills.
