Head of Resident Doctors
At HCA UK, we have an exciting opportunity suitable for Senior SPR level Doctors or Junior Consultants, to be a Head of Resident Doctors.
* Full Time: 40 Hours Per Week, Monday - Friday, 80% managerial time, 20% Clinical Time.
* Salary: (DOE).
* Benefits: Private medical healthcare insurance, contributory private pension, 25 days annual leave, plus bank holidays and 5 days paid study leave per annum.
* Education: Fully Funded Masters Degree in Medical Leadership at City University in association with Bayes Business School.
* Location: HCA Healthcare UK Corporate Head office and The Harborne Hospital, Birmingham. There is also some opportunity to work from home remotely.
Summary of the Head of Resident Doctor position:
As a trained doctor, you will be responsible for the direct line management of Resident Doctors and accountable for the services they provide at the Harborne Hospital. This position is part of an established team of 5 other Heads of Resident Doctors responsible for different HCA sites, reporting Centrally into Corporate Head office, and working in partnership with onsite Senior Management Teams.
Responsibility/Accountability:
* Ensure consistent, high-quality care is delivered, attending to business needs, in line with Consultant led private patient activity levels.
* Work in partnership with our hospital's leadership teams, Chief Medical Officer, Lead Consultants, Chief Nursing Officer and CEO.
* Accountable for people managing Resident Doctors, operationally and commercially responsible for a range of different service provisions, including General Surgery and Acute Medicine.
* Provide direct line management to circa 20-25 Resident Doctors, managing performance, attendance, conduct, training, cost, wellbeing, and their development.
* Lead on recruiting new Resident Doctors for permanent and temporary vacancies, providing a robust orientation and supervision programme.
* Oversee employment contract agreements, study agreements, and managing budgets resourcefully.
* Oversee rota management, ensuring staffing levels are responsive to changes in patient census and patient needs.
* Strive for excellence, providing guidance and support on potential new ways of working, improving efficiencies, and leading audits, projects or research.
* Maintain clinical skills by working part clinical among colleagues on ad-hoc shifts to the level of a Resident Doctor (SPR).
Personal Specification:
* MBBS medical qualification. Fully registered with the GMC and current licence to practice in the UK.
* An additional post-graduate qualification.
* Doctors must be trained to minimum ST5 or equivalent.
* Experience directly line managing or supervising junior doctors, conversant with people management practices and policies.
* Experience of budget management, roster management, and making commercial decisions on workforce management.
* Good inter-personal skills with an ability to work co-operatively in a multidisciplinary setting.
