The Professional Midwifery Advocate (PMA) will act as the Lead for PMA in maternity services within MKUH in modernising and implementing the Advocating for Education and Quality Improvement (A-EQUIP) model at the Trust. This model provides a continuous improvement process that builds upon personal and professional resilience, enhances the quality of care and supports preparedness for registered midwives in appraisal and professional revalidation. The aim is that this continuous improvement process of the A-EQUIP model will become an intrinsic part of everyone's job, every day, in all parts of the system.

Main duties of the job
This role will focus on implementing the elements of the A-EQUIP model. The successful candidate will support the existing sessional professional midwifery advocate team (PMAs) and other roles to offer targeted support to complement and strengthen existing models. There will be a clinical element to this role.
Successful applicants will receive a comprehensive orientation programme and will receive appropriate support.
Job responsibilities
Support midwives to identify their own personal action for quality improvement. The post holder will use their understanding of personal and professional resilience and support others to develop this attribute.
Qualifications and knowledge
Essential
1. Registered Midwife with NMC
2. Successful completion of the PMA programme/bridging programme
3. Evidence of continuing professional development
4. MSSP/ENB 997/998 or similar qualification
5. A thorough understanding of the NMC Code and standards
Desirable
1. Masters level qualification or equivalent
2. Evidence of European Computer Digital License (ECDL)
Experience
Essential
1. Demonstrable experience of broad knowledge of midwifery practice and A-Equip
2. Management skills including chairing meetings, presentations, report writing, managing change, performance management
3. Knowledge of clinical governance and its implementation
4. Experience of working autonomously in planning and organising own diary
5. Experience of working with a wide range of disparate individuals

1. An appreciation of strategic issues affecting health care provision

1. Demonstrable well-developed leadership skills
2. Evidence of working in a complex environment and coping with competing priorities.
3. Evidence of being able to manage own diary via Microsoft Outlook, organise and manage meetings as a PMA
4. Demonstrate IT skills in using applications e.g. Word, PowerPoint and Excel spreadsheets
5. Evidence of excellent skills in report writing
