Main Purpose of the post: To provide treatment room sessions on a regular and relief basis.
Main Purpose of the Practice Nurse: To assist medical personnel in the care and treatment of practice patients, including preventative care, screening, and patient education.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provide assessment, screening, treatment, and health education advice.
2. Coordinate with other Practice Nurses to provide nursing services for the Practice, including delegating duties to other practice nursing staff as appropriate.
3. Provide nursing treatments to patients in collaboration with General Practitioners, following agreed protocols.
4. Conduct general and specific health screenings for practice patients (within agreed protocols) and refer to General Practitioners as necessary.
5. Advise patients on general health care and minor ailments, with referrals to General Practitioners as necessary.
6. Advise patients on immunization needs for traveling and carry out routine immunization programs for infants, children, and adults.
7. Ensure maintenance of treatment room supplies and equipment in collaboration with other Practice Nurses, referring to the Practice Manager or her assistant as necessary.
8. Undertake the collection of pathological specimens, including intravenous blood samples, swabs, and smears.
9. Perform investigatory procedures requested by General Practitioners.
10. Participate in the administrative and professional responsibilities of the Practice Team, ensuring accurate notes of all consultations and treatments are recorded in the patients' computer notes.
11. Complete all necessary documentation associated with patient care and registration with the Practice.
12. Collect and maintain statistical information required for regular and ad hoc reports.
13. Attend and participate in practice meetings as required.
14. Attend and participate in all Treatment Room training sessions as required.
15. Assist in the formation of practice philosophy, strategy, and policy.
16. Cooperate and participate in any research projects within the practice.
17. Participate in the education and training of students of all disciplines and the induction of all members of Practice Staff, with special responsibility for nursing staff.
18. Maintain effective liaison with other agencies and staff concerned with patient care, ensuring confidentiality.
19. Maintain continued education by attending courses and study days deemed useful or necessary for professional development.
