Job Description:
Scope of Role:
Working across operations, supply chain, and design engineering to provide manufacturing engineering expertise in supporting existing and new products, defining new and supporting existing processes. You will assist in the implementation of strategic Lean initiatives throughout the company, leading some Continuous Improvement projects.
Main Duties/Responsibilities:
1. Work with manufacturing cell leaders, lean coordinator, and design engineering to improve process efficiencies.
2. Implement ‘Standard work’, generating and maintaining manufacturing documentation (SOPs, Routings, “Visual Factory” displays).
3. Create and maintain Routings in the MRP system.
4. Implement lean manufacturing methods (e.g., 1-piece flow lines, visual factory) to reduce throughput times, rework/scrap, and work in progress.
5. Implement basic improvement tools, from 5S, 7 Wastes, Visual Management, and Standardised Work, balanced assembly lines where single (best) piece flow philosophies are employed.
6. Support layout changes, ensuring facilities and maintenance teams are involved.
7. Support manufacturing cells with data recording and analysis to focus on main issues.
8. Establish product cycle times and monitor actual performance to reduce manufacturing labor content.
9. Lead improvement projects and CAPEX for new process and product introductions.
10. Collaborate with Engineering on product documentation modifications and parts obsolescence.
11. Provide day-to-day manufacturing engineering support to ensure customer schedule adherence.
12. Suggest and support engineering to define cost-effective manufacturing processes for new products.
13. Develop process FMEA and oversee their implementation.
14. Manage new product introductions and legacy product manufacturing throughout the product lifecycle.
15. Mentor cell leaders on manufacturing assembly and test methods.
Professional Knowledge & Experience:
* Proven experience in a similar role.
* Experience with NPI.
* Experience implementing Standard Work processes.
* Successful track record of implementing Lean in an industrial environment.
* Experience generating process maps, PFMEAs, and control plans.
* Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing principles.
* Experience with problem-solving techniques (5 Why’s, Fishbone diagrams, 8D).
* Technical and problem-solving experience in electro-mechanical manufacturing.
* Good time management and planning skills for complex projects.
* Intermediate IT skills, especially in Microsoft Office.
* Experience in Aerospace, Automotive, or related industries.
* Methodical, detail-oriented, results-focused, and able to meet deadlines.
* Team player with good communication skills.
* Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently.
* Handles pressure well and is flexible.
* Strong leadership qualities and motivation skills.
* Knowledge of ERP/MRP systems.
* Practical experience with process control techniques such as gauge R&R, DOE, SPC.
