Technical Area Sales Manager

The Company:
A Horticultural business who provide products to growers and distributors within the industry.
The Job Role:
To sell the full range of growing media, bark, and fertilisers to a wide range of commercial growers and distributors, driving profitable growth in your designated area, whilst offering technical support for the products, to ensure the customers receive the best experience and technical backup.
Salary: Highly competitive basic salary + Company Car + Fuel Card + Bonus/Commission
Location: Home based with travel covering Newcastle and surrounding areas.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Maximise opportunities for sales and negotiate profitable and improved margins.
2. Support and work in partnership with commercial nurseries and distributors to drive growth and margin opportunities.
3. Help develop technical solutions to growers' problems and resolve through the technical teams.
4. Understand the business objectives of your customers to ensure the development of relevant categories.
5. Develop new customers in your region.
6. Support and implement the growth business strategy, that incorporates increasing large grower and distributor networks.
7. Produce monthly reporting figures and work with department head to proactively identify opportunities to increase profitability.
8. Ensure exceptional customer service is always achieved by communicating effectively with both internal & external contacts.
9. Improve and maintain annual pricing architecture and cost price increase plan.
10. Inform and communicate the performance of your region to the wider sales team.
11. Report back market intelligence.
Candidate Skills and Requirements:
Experience:
3 years relevant successful business experience.
Demonstrable commercial experience, preferably with professional growers.
Exposure or understanding of dealing with professional growers or from within the Horticulture / Agri / Amenity Industry is highly desirable.
A track record in successful business partnering, with sales & technical teams.
Qualifications:
Graduate/Diploma in Horticulture or Soil/Plant Science / Turf / Agri.
Understands the Professional Growers market.
Has relevant commercial experience, with strong Sales input.
Current driving licence and the availability and willingness to travel.
Ideally Basis and Facts qualified or willingness to work towards this.
Financial Acumen:
Understands budgeting process and forecasting.
Project control and costing techniques.
Technical Understanding:
Must have some direct account management experience with large professional growers and a clear understanding of the distribution network.
Must be able to clearly demonstrate a successful track record in working with customers to achieve targets.
Commercial Awareness:
Commercial capability to drive the performance and profitability of the professional business.
Has a strong understanding of P&L costings.
IT and Systems Knowledge:
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Capable of producing PowerPoint Presentations.
Other Skills:
Must have the right level of judgement, drive, and influence to successfully inform and steer the professional business and influence its direction.
Will have ideally been responsible for a business negotiation, from start to finish.
Excellent communication skills.
Comfortable with public speaking and PowerPoint presentations.
