Research Fellow
£38, - £43, per annum
1 year Fixed-term Contract
About the Role
You will contribute to the Advanced Optics and Photonics (AOP) research group by transferring theoretical and practical knowledge to the team and collaborating closely with researchers and students. Your role will include designing and conducting experiments, developing theoretical models, and supporting the characterisation of nanophotonic and quantum photonic systems. You will also provide guidance and supervision on the use of specialised equipment and experimental techniques. You will actively stay abreast of the latest developments in nanophotonics, nonlinear optics, quantum photonics, and related technologies, applying new methods to further research goals.
Your key responsibilities include designing and setting up advanced optical experiments, performing data collection, analysis, and interpretation, preparing research reports, contributing to publications, and presenting findings at conferences.
Essential Knowledge and Experience: expertise in nanophotonics, nonlinear optics, and quantum photonics (theory and experiment), hands-on experience with optical setups, including alignment of high-power lasers and optical characterisation techniques; experience with quantum optics simulation via MATLAB, COMSOL, Lumerical, etc., and understanding of health and safety regulations related to laboratory environments.
Please include responses to the following questions as part of your supporting statement, under the 'Previous Experience' section:
1. Do you have publications in Nonlinear and/or Quantum Optics?
2. Do you have experience on hands-on experiments with optical setups, including alignment of high-power lasers and optical characterisation techniques, independently? Please provide details.
3. Are you familiar with optical simulation via MATLAB, COMSOL, Lumerical, etc?
For more details, please take a look at the role profile. We'll still consider applications even if you don't meet every single one of the requirements, so don't be put off if you don't match them perfectly.
