This is a unique and exciting opportunity to join the Major Sporting Projects Delivery Directorate and be a part of the Sport and Gambling analysis team. The post-holder will work on both planning for UK and Ireland hosting the men’s UEFA European Championships in 2028 (EURO 2028) and supporting work to deliver Grassroots Sports Facilities across the UK. The postholder will be expected to liaise with UK Sport on all EURO 2028 evaluation related work and will also support the evaluation of other priority areas including the Government’s Multi-Sport Grassroots Facilities Programme.
Key deliverables:
EURO 2028 specific
* Providing evaluation expertise and research support to the team, leading on any evaluation requirements which come from UK Sport and the evaluation supplier.
* Working closely with policy, delivery partners and other stakeholders to deliver on the evaluation.
* Communicating updates to a range of stakeholders and providing comments on research methodologies, evaluation reports and research products.
* Feeding into advice papers and submissions to ministers and tournament governance.
Multi-Sport Grassroots Facilities specific
* Supporting with project management of the programme’s externally commissioned evaluation and analysis of programme monitoring information.
Person specification
The ideal candidate would have the following key skills and experiences:
Essential requirements:
* Either: Membership of the Government Social Research Profession or Membership of the Government Economic Service or eligibility to become a member
* Experience and application of evaluation research approaches.
* Ability to make judgements on which research methods are appropriate in different situations.
* Ability to deliver timely and quality analysis in a fast paced environment, using judgement to prioritise efficiently.
* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to articulate the value of evaluation and communicate technical evaluation information.
Desirable skills:
* Experience of working on large-scale evaluations, including experience of contract management in the delivery of research and/or evaluation.
* A track record of building strong relationships with stakeholders to ensure that analysis is trusted and used effectively.
