Pembroke College, Oxford, is looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join its Access and Outreach team for a 12-month internship, starting in early 2025. This role is a unique opportunity to gain experience in education outreach within a vibrant academic environment. As an Access and Outreach Intern, you’ll work closely with the Access Fellow and the Access and Outreach Manager to deliver impactful programmes such as residentials, workshops, and events aimed at supporting talented students from underrepresented backgrounds. This internship will allow you to develop skills in event coordination, stakeholder engagement, and programme delivery, with guidance and mentorship from experienced professionals. About Access and Outreach Pembroke College leads the OxNet initiative, a collaborative programme that engages schools and colleges across the UK in academically intensive activities. These initiatives include seminars, study days, and residential programmes, aimed at supporting talented students from underrepresented communities. Additionally, Pembroke Scholars, launched in 2024, extends outreach opportunities to students requiring a different level of academic engagement. This programme includes essay competitions, workshops, and twilight talks. The Role The Access and Outreach Intern will play a pivotal role in coordinating and delivering the College’s Access and Outreach programmes. The post-holder will ensure the smooth execution of key events, maintain effective communication with stakeholders, and contribute to the strategic vision of the Access and Outreach team. This role combines operational efficiency, strong interpersonal skills, and a commitment to widening access to higher education. Key Responsibilities Programme Administration and Event Coordination Provide administrative support to the Access and Outreach team, including scheduling meetings, booking rooms, and organising refreshments. Manage travel arrangements for the team and participants, including transport, accommodation, and expense processing. Coordinate the logistics of Access and Outreach activities, such as residential programmes, study days, and workshops. Monitor and ensure participant engagement during online and in-person events. Communication and Stakeholder Engagement Act as a primary contact for all enquiries via the Access and Outreach inbox, ensuring timely responses. Draft and publish news, updates, and results through the Access and Outreach website, social media, and newsletters. Liaise with the College Communications team to promote Access and Outreach activities internally and externally. Deliver or assist with presentations to students, parents, and teachers. Resource Development and Reporting Create informational resources such as posters and guides for Access and Outreach activities. Contribute to the evaluation of programme effectiveness and support the preparation of the Access and Outreach Annual Report. Maintain accurate records, including participant data, while adhering to safeguarding and data protection protocols. Team Collaboration Support the Access Fellow and Access and Outreach Manager with ad hoc duties as required. Attend regional and national events to represent Pembroke College, including occasional travel to London, the North West, and North East. Participate in safeguarding training and ensure compliance with all relevant policies and procedures. Person Specification The post-holder should satisfy the following criteria: Essential A good undergraduate degree. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail. Strong organisational and time-management abilities, capable of handling multiple tasks simultaneously. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and online platforms such as Zoom and Teams. Experience in event management and administrative roles. A conscientious and proactive approach to problem-solving. Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive data. Desirable Experience within a higher education or school environment. Familiarity with access and outreach initiatives. Creative skills for producing promotional materials and engaging resources.
