Senior Project Manager – Pension Software – Bristol

As part of our ongoing growth, we have a fantastic new role for a Senior Project Manager to join our team. You will report to the Head of PMO and collaborate with all colleagues in the business, including Business Analysts, Implementation Consultants, QA & Testers, Release managers, Security, Risk and Compliance, IT Support, Product teams and more to deliver projects (internal and external).
Our project managers are such an important part of our delivery – they are the glue that holds it all together. You’ll be responsible for turning the product vision and business plans into epic mapping, story writing and sprint planning in combination with our implementation consultants and system application team.
This role requires experience/awareness of Agile and Waterfall development practices (approach dictated by client). You will need to balance internal business needs with client demands managing complex technical solutions while taking into account all stakeholder needs. The ideal candidate will have experience of UK Pensions as well as excellent communication and diplomacy skills to work through technical decisions with our team as well as with adjacent teams and clients.
What will you be doing:
* Managing a team (size varies with project size, and as a senior PM you’ll get the bigger more complex ones) of implementation consultants, business analysts, developers, testers and release managers
* Working closely with our clients to agree delivery requirements, milestones, governance, and agreed ways of working
* Working on projects worth upwards of £3m
* Writing a Project Initiation Document (PID) and running project kick off meetings
* Developing and maintaining a project plan. This can be in MPP, Jira, ADO.
* Working in a consortium with offshore contributors
* Running regular (usually weekly) project progress meetings (via Teams); internal and external
* Preparing for and presenting at regular (usually monthly) project steering meetings
* Maintaining a Project RAID log
* Keeping the project on schedule, within budget, and as per agreed scope
* Tracking burn down rates, identifying risks and issues, owning escalations and managing them to a high level of competence
* Ensuring the work carried out by the project team is completed to a high standard.
* Managing project teams competing demands and providing input to resource manager and Head of PMO with any conflicts or SME demands
* Managing client relationships; including fostering opportunities for further development
* Supplier management when external suppliers are supporting project delivery
* Sprint planning
* Tracking project performance
* Build credibility with team members and all internal and external clients
* Accurate time recording and adherence to requirements of tooling used
* Line management of junior project managers
* Ensure project delivery follows our Quality Framework/Gating process from requirements gathering to project close.
Essential skills:
* Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, computer information science, information technology, or a related field - beneficial
* Experience working in a pensions, financial services or IT environment, preferably in a customer-focused role
* Financial software experience is also advantageous
* Proven experience working as a Project Manager
* Sound technical knowledge
