Turntide’s Transport group is based in the Northeast of England and is focused on delivering electrification systems – energy storage, power electronics and advanced electric motors – to deliver emissions-free mobility and industrial machines across global markets.
We are hiring for a Director of Software & Control Engineering who will develop and grow a world-class global team of Software and Control Engineers to accelerate our product development and support customers on integrating Turntide’s products into their applications with modern state-of-the-art software design practices and methodologies.
The role will be based at Gateshead in UK and report into the VP of Engineering and will involve moderate travelling between different offices.
Job Role
In this role, the Director, Software & Control Engineering will be responsible for the following:
* Leading and developing (including hiring) our Global Software & Control Engineering function and adopting the State-of-the-Art design and validation practices or methodologies.
* Taking full ownership and being accountable for Software & Control Engineering function’s output to support both development and customer projects across all our product lines (power electronics, motors, thermals, energy storages).
* Setting clear objectives and key results for the team and driving the team to execute and achieve them with first-time-right and staying on-time.
* Driving the team to support Applications, Product, and Sales on new business opportunities with technical support including RFQs review/preparation, design reviews, and discussions with customers.
* Supporting Operations for any manufacturing or quality issues and working with the team to resolve them in a timely manner.
* Partnering with global software service provider(s) for them to support our software development and deliver high-quality results.
* Developing novel control algorithms for next-generation products and increasing automation across all activities.
Experience and Skills
We’re looking for candidates with the following experience and skills:
* A strong background in Embedded Software/System (e.g., C programming language), Control or Advanced Control.
* Extensive experience leading software or control teams with 10+ years.
* Experience in the whole software development lifecycle (e.g., V-model).
* Strategic thinker, able to translate requirements into executable actions and able to grow the team into a high-performing, highly motivated team.
* Strong execution ability, sense of urgency, and a “can-do” attitude.
* Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
* Experience dealing with customers, sales, outside service providers, and other stakeholders.
* Enthusiastic, flexible, and able to thrive and succeed in times of ambiguity and change.
* Able to travel domestically or internationally.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree or above in Software, Computer Science, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, or related engineering field.
Relevant experience could also be considered.
