The Role: The QES Engineer is responsible for driving initiatives to reduce the Cost of Poor Quality, effectively helping the business achieve Quality, Environmental & Safety objectives.
The QES Engineer will be expected to perform tasks efficiently and effectively, evaluating and interpreting test results and, when necessary, investigating and resolving non-conformances.
Duties & Responsibilities:
1. To accurately carry out quality control checks (as required for individual products), evaluate and interpret the results of these checks and determine if the product fully complies with the Company and customer specifications.
2. To undertake testing utilising appropriate test equipment, tools and resources provided, following approved test procedures to ensure accurate assessments are made.
3. Analysing test results regularly to ensure data is within control limits and reporting any peaks or dips to relevant stakeholders.
4. To advise key stakeholders, in a timely manner, of quality issues that arise and implement the appropriate corrective/remedial actions.
5. To investigate and resolve internal & external non-conformances, create correction formulations, and control quarantined material.
6. To ensure that the demands of the production department are met in a timely manner, by ensuring products and materials are tested effectively and efficiently, minimising the impact on production while ensuring quality levels are maintained.
7. To provide data and contribute to the preparation, updating and resolution of customer returns, complaints, non-conformances etc., in order that actions can be implemented, and quality standards maintained.
8. To generate and maintain accurate Quality records in accordance with the QMS (Quality Management System), ensuring production standards and samples are stored appropriately, retrieving items when necessary from storage.
9. To undertake on-line inspection and assessment of materials and finished goods to ensure products are free from cosmetic, process-related and packaging defects.
10. To liaise and assist with team members, team leaders and quality management to ensure quality issues are resolved effectively and reoccurrences prevented.
11. To ensure that machinery and laboratory test equipment is maintained to a productive and safe standard; performing calibration tasks as and when required.
12. To perform internal audits & quality patrols, identifying non-conformances and opportunities for improvement.
13. To contribute to the continuous improvement of the Quality department, putting forward recommendations for improvement and, with management agreement, implementing where appropriate.
14. To follow all Company policies relating to product safety, confidentiality, and H&S regulatory compliance.
It will be expected that the successful candidate will assist with other laboratory duties as required; therefore, a flexible approach to working as part of a small team is strongly desirable.
Skills / Experience:
1. IOSH / NEBOSH qualification.
2. Good interpersonal and communication skills.
3. Able to work independently and as part of a team.
4. Ability to critically analyse and interpret data, then use this data to make decisions.
5. Ability to work effectively under pressure.
6. Good standards of numeracy and literacy.
7. Competent with IT systems (including the MS office suite of software).
8. Previous Quantity Control experience desirable.
