Job summary
We are delighted to advertise an exciting opportunity for an Advanced Clinical Practitioner to join our Ophthalmology Department at Epsom and St Helier. You will need to be qualified and practising autonomously as an advanced clinical practitioner. As this is a new role in Ophthalmology, you will be pivotal in the development of this post.
The post holder will demonstrate a high level of expertise within the specialist service providing advice, education, and support to staff, patients, their families, and carers. This will encompass the skills of advanced clinical assessment, examination, diagnosis, and treatment within an agreed scope of practice in both an emergency and elective setting.
Main duties of the job
The role will predominantly be working in the Acute Eye Service, but there will be an opportunity to undertake elective outpatient clinics. Responsibilities include:
1. Assessing individuals, families, and carers holistically using a range of methods, such as physical assessment and history taking.
2. Ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests or advanced health needs assessments.
3. Using expert knowledge and clinical judgement to decide whether to refer patients for investigations and make diagnoses.
4. Communicating effectively with patients, carers, and the multidisciplinary team.
5. Deciding on and carrying out treatment, which may include the prescribing of medicines or referring patients to an appropriate specialist.
6. Ensuring the provision of continuity of care.
7. Assessing and evaluating with patients and/or carers the effectiveness of the treatment and care provided and making changes as needed.
