Highly Specialist Speech & Language Therapist - Acute Ward

An opportunity has arisen for a Highly Specialist Speech & Language Therapist to join our Integrated Therapies Team on our acute wards based at Colchester Hospital.
This is a fixed term/secondment post until 31/03/2025
Main duties of the job
You will be responsible for the assessment & management of patients who are acutely unwell and have impaired communication and swallowing, including those that require specialist assessment that also includes the instrumental diagnostics of video-fluoroscopy examinations.
You will have the responsibility of the clinical supervision of junior staff and be a clinical educator for students.

Person Specification
Experience
* Extensive post graduate experience within care group.
* Broad range of experience in a variety of disorders prior to specialisation.
* Experience in managing / co-ordinating SLT staff.
Qualifications
* Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree qualification or equivalent.
* Health Professions Council - Licence to Practice and current registration.
* Evidence of reaching Level 3 in dysphagia competency.
* Registered Member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (R.C.S.L.T.).
* Membership of relevant Special Interest Groups (SIGs) Acquired service.
Knowledge
* Excellent theoretical and practical knowledge of a broad range of assessments relevant to the specialist care group and the relative benefits of each.
* In depth knowledge of a range of therapeutic interventions relevant to the care group, particularly in relation to dysphagia and supportive communication, including the relative benefits of each and the comparative outcomes.
* Awareness and practical experience of a range of communication tools e.g. Speech, signing systems, symbol systems, and graphic representation.
